project faded Levi

Well we picked up a 72 C10 long bed for my son`s first truck, it was started 10 years ago but the PO died and it has sat parked in the weeds, he put a 67 front clip and doors on it. When we opened up the hood, it looks like a crate motor so we drug it out of the brush for a new life!

Re: project faded Levi
How sweet is that?
Cool Dad, truck, story. Your son will never forget it. Keep us posted. |
Re: project faded Levi
Are you sure that is a 72? It doesn't have markers on the bed side. And has the lower moulding like a 67. Nice truck either way!
|
Re: project faded Levi
Yep, its a 72 that the PO tried to make a 67, did a pretty good job as it was over 10 years ago, the marker lights have been filled on the bed, its a 5 lug disc brake truck and the vin shows 1972.

Re: project faded Levi
That makes sense, It didn't look like they had been filled because the paint looks so original. Very nice start!

Well after a lot of clean up and a tune up, replaced the gas tank and bought a replacement carb, and put some penatrating oil down the spark plug holes she fired right upafter 10 years of setting, runs like a champ, now to go through the brakes and clean up the engine compartment! The boys are having some good lessons on how to loosen up old rusty nuts

Re: project faded Levi
Nice find!

Re: project faded Levi
Great looking truck and it looks like the body work done to it is quality. I would have never guessed that wasn't a 67. Good luck getting it back on the road!

got her a new set of wheels off craigslist and a set of tires too and ordered the drop springs, going with a 2/4 drop and were going to pick up a factory sway bar and a quick ratio steering box tomorrow, so good progress so far

We got the wheels and tires all mounted, the boys painted the wheels, grill surround and rear bumper to natch, I bet I cut off 50 lbs of steel the PO`shad welded to the rear bumper and frame over the years!

We installed the new steering box and 2/4 drop today, looks much better and replaced the master and booster. The brakes had all been done so just a good cleaning to free everything up and old Levi is looking pretty good

Re: project faded Levi
That has cleaned up nice. They have done a good job. Keep us posted as they make changes along the way.

Thanks, this weekend its time to tackle the engine bay, spruce it up with a bit of chrome and paint, we replaced the carb with a edlebrock 1407 and going to use a Edlebrock proformer we took off another project a while back, just needs to be bead blasted and cleaned up a bit.

Here`s a before and after of the engine compartment, turned out pretty good the boy did a nice job with the bead blaster and he used the Eastman manifold paint and we clear alodined the manifold so it should stay looking like this for a long while, we also had to replace the carrier as it was shot from sitting so long.
