rearend identification.
 

i have been searching the crap out of rear end identification for chevy 10 bolt rear ends and can not find any information on this, here is the issue i got into . i bought a rear end off a guy from a 68 p/u i looked at it and it had trailing arm mounts etc i thought it was odd it was a 10 bolt instead of 12 but whatever it was in a truck and i need to get mine going. got it home and it is measuring 69 inches from wms to wms. it has a 5on5 lug pattern which confuses me. what vehicle had a 69 inch rear end in it and how horrible will this look on a pickup. that is 3 inches wider on each side over the stock rear end.

I looked at that site and it didn't help me. I'm comfuses as to what I should do at this point. toss the rearend in the scrap bin or what. I can't even find anything that uses anything 69 inches. My stupidity for not measuring to begin with I guess.

what about a Caprice rear axle even into the later generations like the SS[Impala] models did you check those?

I'm just irritated because I need to get the damn truck done before the new edition to the family is born. I still can not identify this thing. I have only found one set of numbers stamped in it. G57 hmmm... what to do.

If it is original and came out of one of these trucks... and has 10 bolts holding the cover on... it will be an Eaton or a Dana. Which are completely different animals from a GM 10 bolt.

They were bolted into C20's and C30's... so they will have the correct perches welded to them to fit the 67-72 trucks.

That is what I am taking out of my truck. It was a c20 Dana 8 lug. I shortened the truck and am converting it to 5 lug disc. But apparently In northern California it's impossible to find a trailing arm rearend without spending a fortune. The prices I have found I could build a brand new rearend from scratch lol
