Looking for the top half of a clamshell rear hatch
I have had this suburban for 25 years. Raised two kids in it, towed boats and race cars with it. It had 80 thousand miles on it when I bought it for $1800.00 and now it has 230,000 and I have never pulled the motor. I got in a head on collision with a Porsche one day. The Porsche was totaled and the driver went to the hospital. I drove home!
I love this truck, and have installed a drop kit so now it is just a weekend cruiser, but I would love to fix it up. Mods. I forgot no threads for parts wanted allowed. I edited the post but could not edit title. Sorry, can you help we change title? |
Re: Looking for the top half of a clamshell rear hatch
Wow, 90 views and no leads on a rear hatch. Is the Suburban rear hatch that hard to find? I have also tried craiglist adds and local swaps with no luck.

Re: Looking for the top half of a clamshell rear hatch
Simple answer - Yes. Since the metal was not treated inside they have a tendency to rust out. A couple years back there was a lead on a fiberglass replacement but, as far as anyone knows, only one was produced and ended up on the phoenix craigslist.

Re: Looking for the top half of a clamshell rear hatch
I would think that the great majority of suburban owners are looking for the upper hatch. I have acquired 4 hatches over the years and they all need work. I saw one a few weeks ago at the Pate swap meet that was the cleanest that I had ever seen and it still had some rust pinholes. If one of the repop places ever remakes them I would assume almost every suburban owner would be buying one.
