Manual Steer rebuild

I bought a 71 C10 last Friday. The steering has a lot of slop, 3 inches or better. I tried to adjust it and noticed the pitman arm moves forward and aft before side to side. I am looking for a rebuild kit, but haven't found one yet. I don't want to buy a new box, because I plan on doing a engine swap and power steering conversion next year. The wife says all that has to wait until I am done with a house remodel and my degree. Any idea where to get a rebuild kit or decent used steer box?

you might be better off buying a used tight gearbox.

I agree. With that much play the gears are probably wore out. Get a good used one & then freshen it up with a rebuild kit if nessesary. I believe Classic Parts has the kit for this.

Thanks guys. I found a guy on CL in Shelbyville, TN with a ton of parts for 67-72. He has a box for 75 that is tight. Will be heading up there next week.
