Fuel filler neck, why are they too low?! Options??
I could not find a thread to answer my question,,,So, Does anyone else have problems with the low placement of the fuel filler necks on the 77's (among others i'm sure). Every time I get gas I have to hold a rag under the nozzle because ti backs up and spills. Plus the gas pump always kicks off, as it should because the gas is backing up. Are there solutions to this??? I sure hope so! It takes forever to fill my tank because I can only squeeze the gas pump part way! Help!!
Thanks,, 1977 Bonanza fleetside. |

The size of the pipe is fine, but the angle of the dangle is a bit off for modern pumps.
Check your vent line, as when I swapped tanks around when I built my K20 from 3 trucks. My tank now fills normally except for ocassional pump to tank issues with the pressure stop they use. |

One trick that helps me a lot is find a pump on a slight slope and park with the nose down. Doesn't take much of a slope to make a big difference. My 75 has the regular gas (no cats) fill tubes and OK doesn't have the vapor recovery nozzles.

I also angle the pump nozzle inside the filler neck towards the tank. That seems to help.

When they work right they should take gas as fast as most pumps. I have one of each 76, a fast one and a slow one.

Put the nozzle in so the hose end is at about 2 oclock!
Put it in and crank it around! Never a problem that way. |
