Why are my iPhone pics always sideways?
 

Like I said, my pics that I take always rotate, how do I fix them?Attachment 1405451 that's not a sideways light switch lol

I haven't been able to figure this out, happens to me too. Only happens with portrait orientation. It's pretty easy to fix.

I cant afford an iPhone, but with my droid if I hold it sideways the pics come out sideways if I hold it vertical the pics come out vertical

Attachment 1405462 ok well if I hold the phone sideways it works, that's good enough for me. Just throwing that out there incase anyone else had the same problem.

Opposite for me, we'll the pic orientation part. I can't afford an iPhone either lol, a friend gave me this iPhone when they got a free upgrade.

When I post pics from my iPhone, they are right side up as long as the volume buttons are pointed down (ie the round home button is to the right) when I take the picture. You can't tell when you look at the picture on the phone because it is smart enough to figure up which way is up. It is just when posting on the web that this becomes an issue.

Like mentioned above, just hold your phone sideways with the volume buttons facing the ground and take the picture, it will work every time.

Try this:

1) Open pic in Windows Photo Viewer, rotate, then close it.
2) Reopen, rotate it back, then close again.

Somehow this reassigns or overwrites the attributes assigned by the camera. Or at least is does on my pc running Windows 8.1.

Yep, exactly. I had the same problem with my IPhone until I started taking the pics with the button on the right.

It's a bug in the vBulletin software, which they are aware of. It's on the list of things that forum admins can vote for to be fixed, but how far down I don't know.

To repeat my off-topic reference to it yesterday in another thread, here it is from the horses's mouth (vBulletin senior tech):

"They need to make sure their orientation is correct before they upload them. We don't use the EXIF data to determine orientation. Facebook goes out of their way to fix it. We do not yet do this."

Which means, in layman's terms:

"The user will need to manually pre-rotate their images in a paint program because we're too lazy/cheap/whatever to read the EXIF data and figure it out for them".

It's up to vBulletin to fix it, so far as I can tell. Forum owners can "vote" on it being an important feature to fix here:

I took all my pictures and later found this problem trying to assemble a build thread. That's why I had to find a way to work with previously taken pictures. The Windows Photo Viewer trick I mentioned above works well as Windows reassigns orientation attributes regardless of how it was taken with the phone.
