Hood Help

Hoping to get some advice from the experts. I am outside of the country now, and 90% of the time, so I am relying on paint shop or mechanic intel.

Prior to painting my Blazer I ordered a cowl hood, to replace the factory original which was dented beyond repair. The paint/body shop said the left hinge needed to be replaced, so I bought a new one from LMC. They put the new hinge in, and installed the hood, and now things aren't aligning on the left side. The hood is too far forward, and the panel gaps aren't even. Unfortunately, the idiots cut the new hinge (as you can see) so I can't return it to LMC.

From the measurements, it looks like the new hinge is off by about .5" My question is, did I get I poorly made repop, or are they all this far off? Should I go with another new hinge, or try to source a good condition old one?

That repop hinge is all shades of screwed up.

Look at the pivot pins in relation to the slots on the new and old. Almost looks like it is assembled backwards.

Try to find a good used hinge, or modify that one.

Re: Hood Help

I would look for a set of good used hinges or NOS hinges. I believe that hood hinges should be replaced as a set not just one.

I would just elongate the holes on the new hinge until it lines up. It's already un returnable anyways. You can find original hinges and rebuild them.

Maybe it's the angle of the picture, but I think he's going to need to add an inch to the rear to get it to come close to working.

I'm thinking of the holes where it attaches to the fender. That or just buy a used hinge. I know the aftermarket parts sometimes have their issues. Made in Taiwan doesn't always scream quality.

Thanks guys, I think we can attribute this one to a bad repop. I sent an email to LMC, waiting to hear what they say.

In the mean time, I am looking for a good quality hinge, if anyone has one, please drop me a line.

Ahh, I see. That would work. And yes, I agree on the aftermarket parts!

I dealt with doors not lining up on a 71 I had. Had to cut 1/4" off the bottom to get them to line up.

Re: Hood Help

Just a quick update: I emailed LMC (supplier of the faulty hinge) about the hinge with the above pictures. They sent me an email response very quickly that they were looking into the issue and would get back to me. Today I get an email notification that a replacement part was shipped yesterday, and is on the way. Under 36 hours from my email to the part leaving the warehouse, on an order that was placed more than 6 months ago. That's great customer service!

Now hopefully this new hinge fits better.
