16" steelies for 67 k-20
Hello everyone, i recently made a post about this in 4x4 with little response. I have a 67 k -20 with 16" steelies all the way around. Front drums don't like these 70 / 80's era rims. The outer edge of the drums ride very close like 1/500th away from where the rims are riveted or welded in the center.
Any recommendations for new rims or modification would be greatly appreciated, Thanks Andrew. :metal: |

I fail to see the issue you are having. I may be misreading your post but what exactly is the problem? Noises? Scraping? Grinding? Please explain.

70's/80's 8 lug wheels, 16 or 16.5 should fit just fine on a 77 k20. DO you have any details on WHICH 70s/80s wheels you are running? GM? Factory split rims from late 60's perhaps?

Re: 16" steelies for 67 k-20
I went to pull the wheels off and they were stuck to the drums, this is also causing me a braking issue I feel. I get a bad wobble with these wheels which I don't get. When I have the 16.5s in the front which clear the drum well.
Again any recomendarions would be great! |

Honestly I do not know the exact wheels, I know a few are 80s was there all the same width, some are Chrysler I think and others are gm or ford. I grabbed wheels from a junk yard that matched in diameter and width not overall worried about brand.

I guess you have to worry about brand, because I have never heard of any GM 8-lug wheel not fitting over any GM brake drum...ever. I have some earlier Ford 16" (3) on my '72 with no problems

Have you modified the hub at all? You said you checked diameter and width...what about your backspace? Too much maybe? When you tighten the lugs are you trying to pull the drum into the wheel? My bet is that's what's happening hence your wobble because the lugs feel tight, but the wheel center is not right against the hub because of the drum. |
