How would you fix this NP208?

Just bought an 85 K5 with a messed up transfer case. PO somehow snapped off the end of the threaded rod that connects the shift linkage to the transfer case body. Not sure if there's something going on internally with the case for it to be so bound up to completely shear off the end of the rod. Wondering if I'm gonna have to open it up and put a new rod in or if this is something that's fixable externally. I don't mind a short term temporary fix just so I can get it in 2wd for the time being. Maybe drill and tap and then weld a screw in place so I can turn it with a wrench?

To fix that I would pull the back half of the case off and replace it. OR just swap out the entire case with a good used or rebuilt. The 208s are pretty cheap at the wrecking yard

I might pull the back half off first and see what's going on. I've never been into a transfer case so I might as well learn something while this thing is out.

Or grab another t case,The np208 was used 81-87 on all 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks.

By putting a NP205 in it's place.

I think this is what I'm going to do...found one close by for cheap. Just trying to get up with the guy so I can get it.

If its a direct swap I'd consider it. I'm looking for the simple solution to get this thing mobile.

To swap the np205 you gotta get a adapter kit and change the t case shifter and linkage and maybe the driveshafts.Unless its a hardcore off road truck the np208 is fine.

Finally got up with a guy just down the road from me selling 208 for $65 so I jumped on that. Even had the shift linkage still hooked up which I also needed so that was a bonus. Now I've got a spare parts case and this Jimmy is finally mobile!
