Frame indention ???

Has anyone ever seen this before?
I recently bought a shortbox frame (Thanks Homebuilt Hotrods), but I had never seen this before on a frame. Kind of odd. It is a 1968 St. Louis built truck/frame, don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Also has these in the rear which I have never seen before...

Don't know about the frame indent on the front, but I have seen the frame re-inforcing plate on the rear a few of these trucks. In fact I am installing something similar from brothers.

My 72 longbed has both that dimple in the frame (both sides) and the reinforcement piece. It's also a St. Louis truck, if that matters.

The front frame indentions are on both sides.
I wonder if its a St. Louis only thing?
I guess we will see as more people reply.

Also check where to frame/VIN was produced. On the frame it should be a 8 digit number starting with 8x123456,
The X will be a letter representing the Assembly plant.
St. Louis is an S
Janesville is a J
etc...

I have those indents in the front and the extra plates in the rear on mine. Flint Michigan plant build.

I know my k/20 is for sure a Janesville truck and I'm somewhat certain that this one is too but I could be just remember Janesville from the k/20. I checked the stamped vin on this frame a while back. I'll return and report when I get home.

Mines got the indents and it's an "a" truck... Didn't feel like looking up the a plant.

They don't really bother me, well they sorta do... as in... not smooth and very noticeable.
But I had just not seen (or remember seeing) these indentions before, just thought I would see how common they were.

Re: Frame indention ???

weld em up then grind it down wipe it with fiber strand if needed to smooth out the area then paint over it. that will surely leave a smooth finish and the indention will go away. Jim

Yea, sorry.
Its the only fun vehicle I have on the road. I also have a 2003 Chevy Tahoe. But its just not as fun to drive as "The Coop".
As soon as I get my 67 project to a point of being photo worthy, the Mini Cooper photo will be replaced.
I am surprised it took this long for a comment. LOL
