Truck ran out of gas now wont start
well basically as the title says, i have a no start. i had a little gas in the tank and then she quit. i tried to turn it over again and it started then sputtered out. now it just cranks and wont start. i added about 3 gallons of gas and even poured a little down the tbi. it starts with that, but dies when its all used up. i cannot hear the pump prime when i turn the key, so my final conclusion is i burnt out the fuel pump. any thoughts?

Re: Truck ran out of gas now wont start
I have the TBI and once my truck did the same thing... pulled the air filter and no fuel was getting into the TBI.
Upon close inspection I realized a couple of the wires leading into the TBI injectors had rubbed through their rubber covers. The wires were grounding out on the throttle body. 30 seconds and 3 strips of electrical tape later I was on my way... Check those wires. |
Re: Truck ran out of gas now wont start
In tank fuel pumps use the fuel for cooling. If you consistently run below 1/4 tank you will burn up fuel pumps. Fill up to at least 1/2 tank and treat 1/4 as empty.

Re: Truck ran out of gas now wont start
My 87 Burb left me roadside a couple of times.
Replaced the pump it happened again, couldn't hear pump. Found a nicked/corroded power wire over the drivers side rear wheel. Fixed that it was fine. |
