manifold ends

Can you cut those 3 bolts on each manifold end where it ties into both ends of the Y pipe? Also I think there is supposed to be a heat exchanger on one or both manifold ends and mine doesn't look like it has them. Thanks, Al

Re: manifold ends

You can cut them if you want. What year of truck are you asking about? What engine?

I have a 1978 Chevy C10 Custom Deluxe 305 engine. It Looks to me like there are 3 bolts attaching the manifold to the Y pipe ends. Isn't there supposed to be a heat exchanger on one or both manifold ends? I am going to put on new manifolds. Thanks, Al

Heat riser ?
It's usually on the pass side,
Don't cut them , don't you want to remove them studs, may need to get them cherry hot to remove the old ones.
Some remove the butterfly and seal it back up.

Re: manifold ends

So at this point are you just trying to remove the manifolds? Have you sourced new studs to go into the new manifolds? If so then cut them off if that is the easiest for you, probably what I would do also. Not sure about '78 but newer ones were a stud, spring and nut. I think at some point in the past it was just a stud and nut. The heat riser butterfly will require longer studs on the pass side. Hope this helps.
