Cabs whats the difference ???
I have a 68 C10 LB 3 on the tree 6 cyl. non a/c truck and yes you guessed it I need to plug some holes. I have found a really good a/c cab that in the most part its 98 % complete right down to the jack & crank scissor handle. * * * Will I have any problems with the switch.* * * The donor cab is I think a 72 with the 5th # being a 2. It also has frt. disc witch would be 71 or 72 & its a auto trans cab, that's ok cuzz PO has dropped in a SB with a 700 r4 trans so for now the auto tunnel fits. Down the road I'll drop in my 4 spd so I'll have to also switch the brake/ clutch peddles assembly. From what I have learned from this forum I think the switch will go ok just with a little bit of work and thats ok for this ol'man

Re: Cabs whats the difference ???
The cab should bolt up to the frame no problem. You will have to cut out the center of the floor and change over to a high hump to accommodate the 4 speed. The only other thing I can think of right now is the parking brake is different. Your 68 has the lever under the dash a 72 has a pedal. Not sure about switching but Im sure it can be made to work one way or another. A lot of other people know a lot more about this than I do so this will be a bump back to the top till they chime in .

Other than legal issues with the VIN plate, no

Re: Cabs whats the difference ???
*Some of the holes in the firewall are different.
*I believe the fuse block opening is a little different. *Rearview mirror mounts different. *Vin Tag. * Gas pedal rod vs cable. Are a few more things off the top of my head. Gary |
Re: Cabs whats the difference ???
ashtray will be different as well. doors will be different as far as the guts go.

Re: Cabs whats the difference ???
Biggest thing I would be concerned with is the vin. Does the new cab come with a free and clear title? Are you prepared to now title your truck as a 72?
If not I would consult your local MVD "enforcement officer", not the clerk at the DMV office. It can get sticky or messy. or not, not sure on your state's rules on this. |
Re: Cabs whats the difference ???
Well don't change the whole cab. Change "Parts" [wink wink] of the cab leaving the left pillar panel.I you understand what I'm saying is cut out the part of your cab with the tags on it and transfer them to the other cab. That way your vin tag HAS NOT been tampered with and you have used parts of another cab to fix yours it happens thousands of times a day in body shops all over the country. That is the way I had it explained to me by a law enforcement official.

Re: Cabs whats the difference ???
But if you were gonna do that, you would need a bill of sale on the other cab so that it can be vin tracked if needed to prove you didn't do anything "untoward"

Re: Cabs whats the difference ???
Can the dashes be re-mounted from one another, does it bolt to the cab carcass, so what I'am saying I'd like to keep my dash don't really want the a/c stuff, gas peddle cable, e-brake push peddle, and any thing else. As far as the DMV vin plate that is easy (a drill & some new rivets) & done with that. * * * My trucks reg. wont change at all.* * * I just want to change out my parts & transfer all to the good carcass, as far as the doors mine are good, all extra parts will be sold. mjgord51
PS any more Info keep on coming, Thanks |

Re: Cabs whats the difference ???
I just got a cab from a 72 gmc and it has vents in the rear door pillar. I think they are that way on chevys also. Also check your state laws because in kansas all you need is a bill of sale so you could possibly get it impounded and get it declared abandoned and have the company "sell" it back to you if you have friends that can do that.

Re: Cabs whats the difference ???
The 71 truck I used to fix WiggyHD's cab had the vents in it as well, It might have been a late 71 thing?

Re: Cabs whats the difference ???
Would like more input, Is the A/C cab at the firewall heater box area different in the mounting/ screw pattern of the A/C unit on the firewall? mjgord51

Re: Cabs whats the difference ???
Yes , the heater box holes are completely different .
I am just did this on my rusted out base model '60 C/10 , I wanted AC and now have to fiddle with all that . FWIW , they do sell inexpensive " AC Delete " covers so that's not a big deal . If ever you get pulled over in Cali. and asked to step out of the vehicle and they see non rosette rivets , you will begin to care a whole bunch really fast . |
