Should the steering column be sandblasted?

Ive been taking apart my 66 and taking parts to a sandblaster but I was wondering if this steering column would not be a part to blast since its got linkages and such that might get damaged. Best to use a wire wheel?

Also the hinges for the hood, are these best left connected or removed for blasting?

I would take it apart before blasting. Here is a good thread that shows much info:

I'd definitely take the hinges and springs off the inner fenders.
If you have good bearings and no issues on the column its a coin toss. Mine was in great shape, so I just cleaned it up, painted and reinstalled.

On my column, we simply hand sanded, primed and painted. The column is the same color as dash top, it just looks different in the picture). You see very little of the column anyway. The pics below show the column before mounting and after.
