292 motor mount bracket
I know that the perch for the passenger side motor mount must be the one used for the 292 and must be moved forward a bit. I have done this in the past but today while getting ready to install the 292, the motor mount bracket that mounts to the block will not fit . I am attempting to use the brackets from the previous motor a 250. Does the passenger side bracket from an original 292 have to be used also? Thoughts

Re: 292 motor mount bracket
292 pass side perch is only for a 292. nothing else works

Re: 292 motor mount bracket
I know the perch is but what about motor mount bracket to block?

Re: 292 motor mount bracket
they are all the same

Re: 292 motor mount bracket
There are spacers between the block and mount, also think the mount it's self is different.

I decided that it seemed like I could redrill the mount and make it work IIRC, but I need to pull the correct mount off another 292 I have and check (hopefully Sunday/Monday). Anyone else? Quote:

The right hand block mount that goes between the block and the rubber mount that came off my '69 250 is absolutely not the same as what is on my other 292 and will not work on my rebuilt 292 that needs the same mount. I'm not sure about early blocks, but the statement that "the ones between the block and the insulator are the same" is wrong. There is absolutely a 292-specific right hand block mount (at least for the later model blocks). |

The only reason I add the disclaimer that both mine are not 63-66 blocks is because I am unsure if those are different, since I don't have one. Quote:

Re: 292 motor mount bracket
Not shure it's a target block made in Mexico but I took both the mounts from my factory 292 that was in my 65. previously the engine was in a 76 6x6 one ton guess I got lucky with mine.

Re: 292 motor mount bracket
The mount brackets should be the same for all 6 cylinders and sbc's in the 63-66 era as all those years had the option for the 292. The perches I thought were the same to. Only difference I new of was where they mount. The 194-230-230 mount different on the passenger side vs the 292. The small 6's mount in the middle of the block and the 292 further up front directly behind the dizzy. Its to early in the morning for me....I'll be back later.

The right hand 292 perch is not the same as one for a SBC or smaller six: http://www.persh.org/pickup/perches.htm http://www.persh.org/images/65pickup/Perches_V8-I6.jpg |
Re: 292 motor mount bracket
My 292 block is of 1971 vintage, so I guess i'm looking for a later model bracket to block for/off 292. Thanks for everyone help.. Are the 292 dipsticks different also?

Re: 292 motor mount bracket
Ok, I did some more research and managed to find some pictures I took.
Apparently the 230/250 right hand side mount is the one that is different. It appears you need two left hand mounts with spacers on the right hand one to make the 292 setup. I'll do some more checking when I have the stuff in my hand and report back... |

Re: 292 motor mount bracket
Hey thanks everyone, Found a pair of left side brackets in a box along with one spacer so am down to finding one spacer to finish 292 install. This is one outstanding forum, thank you all for your input. Anyone know where I might find one spacer?
