Fuel tank selector valve. ARRGH!!!
Well I just installed two new tanks in my 78. In the process the tank selector valve broke in two. Apparently this valve is no longer made. I have the 6 port 1 wire solenoid valve. Has anyone replaced that valve with the 5 wire motorized valve? How hard is it to wire it up correctly? Any other suggestions would be great. I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out what to do.

Re: Fuel tank selector valve. ARRGH!!!
So I literally just saw the other thread about this very same issue. Don't know how I missed it before I posted. Looks like my options are two 3 port valves or the relay setup unless I want to rewire things.

Re: Fuel tank selector valve. ARRGH!!!
I bought one from LMC for my 78 Custom Deluxe. I haven't installed it yet but it looks just like the one that's on there. In a few weeks I plan to order 2 new tanks from the Brother's and replace all new hoses and everything. Al

Re: Fuel tank selector valve. ARRGH!!!
You don't need to do the relays. Just run the second wire back there and replace the switch with a DPDT wired for reversing. Just google "reversing switch" and look for the one with the "X" across the back. Then hook both sender wires into the integral electrical switch and use one wire back to the cab as the sender wire direct to the gauge.
Matter of fact, you can probably use the extra sender wire up to the front as the second wire to the valve motor, since you only need one sender wire to the front with that motorized valve. |
