Crew cab differences.
I have decided I am going to get a square body crew instead of buying a new truck. Personally I can not handle the payments and insurance for as much as I drive.
I have a 1974 K20 that I would like to rob parts off of since it will be converted to 55 during the winter. From my CL searches it seems 80-90 are more plentifully, higher spec'd, but I prefer the whole 70's vibe more. So for guys having owned our driven both, are the later versions better with controls lay out. Or is it just a personal choice thing. I am a HVAC tech so this is going to be a fall project, with a quick flip for road use. This way I have time to buy the best starting point I can for the cheapest possible price. Is there anything else I should know about these trucks before I drop the money down. |
Re: Crew cab differences.
Not a lot of differences in the trucks. They made the crews until 1991 . A sweet score would be a 1991 4x4 as they came with a 4l80e overdrive trans and the bullet proof np205. Other then that tbi vs carb is the major difference .

Re: Crew cab differences.
Lots of factors here, do you want 4x4 or 2x4? 4x4 will be MUCH harder to find, especially a 70's as they started making k30 trucks in 77. Personally I like the 81-87 interior's better, as well as the part time transfer case.
All down to personal preferences really. |
Re: Crew cab differences.
I am going 2wd on this one. The 4x4 is not really needed in my life. It was just something I had to have, and the deal was right at that time.
Since my divorce I have been blocked on doing quite a few things by not having a crew cab truck or a car or that matter. When I get the truck at the end of summer I will see what I can get. |
Re: Crew cab differences.
Do you want a dually or single rear wheel?

Re: Crew cab differences.
Single rear wheel, but I will likely have to convert a drw due its commonplace on the market. Also I have a stash of a few parts that I will utilize in the initial build or tune up. Such as one of my ignition set ups, my 9.5 sf, rims and tires off my K20, bucket seats, and a whole stereo set up I have.
That being said there is a 76 C20 CC are for $700 down the block from me I want to check out. If it is not beat like a rented mule it maybe in garage this weekend. |
