Top Mods List?
Hey guys,
I just about have my 1986 1 ton back into daily use shape. When I got the truck from the OP, I had to repair an electrical hack job, replace the motor and generally repair everything that he "restored". I think that everything is now back to stock and working. This is great for a functioning baseline because I now know everything works and mostly where it lives... :) In my searching for different topics I came across many similar threads on these truck, but no unified MOD FAQ like I have found in other car forums. Some examples are : Tach in cluster mod, intermittent wipers, LED cluster lights, security mods, bolt on brake swaps, etc.. I know this can go crazy with aftermarket, but there does seem to be a number of common modifications done with stock or other GM parts. Any thoughts? John |
Re: Top Mods List?
some "mods" are more split into areas for electrical and suspension.
but look here too http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/f...splay.php?f=28 you may get better results by stretching the search date |
Re: Top Mods List?
Really your wallet is about the only limit on mods you can do to it.Is the truck a dually or single rear wheel?

Re: Top Mods List?
Thanks for the link.
Both of my 1 tons are single rear wheel setups. The '87 is turning into my DD, and the '86 will probably be sold/traded when the '87 is done. Here are some pics... First arrival: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...val/Front.jpeg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...ival/Side.jpeg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...ival/Door.jpeg New motor: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...on%20Floor.JPG Motor is in. The PO had some really bad gas that killed the motor. It ended up bending a push-rod and then because of all the chemicals he added to the fuel everything turned to a red sticky gel. So after we pulled and tossed the tank, carb, tank switch valve, and blew out all the lines with very high pressure and the fuel system is working again minus one tank. When I put on the headers, I discovered that my AC bracket won't mount around the headers I installed, so my power steering pump is vibrating and I can't mount my AC pump. Any suggestions on how to modify this to work? I am looking for a serpentine setup or hot-rod v-belt set now. I did find a cool old LUND visor for it. That will go on this week. And I would like to find a gas and tach gauge to put into my cluster, but am having trouble locating a set that I know will work. Any advise or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Clear skies, John |
