Alternator plug

2 Attachment(s)
I've got two options here, a 68 wiring harness and a 70 wiring harness. If I use the plug pictured in both photos, which wire goes where? Thanks. The first pic is the 68

Re: Alternator plug

The plug on your harness in the photo isnt the alternator connector. Also, The 67-72 trucks had a different alternator connector than the new pigtail that you have in the photo. (It is for an internally regulated alternator and 67-72 trucks were external). I have always just bought the adapter kit which converts the square plug on the harness to the newer flat connector, and also has a jumper plug that plugs in place of the old external regulator. You can also do it yourself, i am just lazy.

Re: Alternator plug

I thinkthat maybe the plug in the last photo is for A/C compressor power. The ac harness is separate from the main harness and can be removed separately if you dont have a/c.

BTW, 67-72 harness are pretty much the same depending on engine type (6 cyl vs sbc vs bbc) for 67-72. Also, the larger gauge red wire with the ring terminal and rubber boot on it on your harnesses connects to an external regulted alternator the same way it connected to the internally regulated one.

There are several threads here on the site for extrnal to internal regulator swaps. Also you. should be able to search for an engine harness wiring diagram.

Thanks wideside, I think you're right. That one connector is for the AC. I hate trying to mess with wires that have been disconnected and tangled up lol. Also, I do have an internally regulated alternator.
