Exterior Door Handle
On the passenger side exterior door handle (push button), are you able to disassemble the handle and place a locking tumbler to have the passenger side keyed also? Or... are you able to buy a driver's side and just flip it upside down... away from truck and a few vendors are unsure. Thanks

Yes, I believe you can pull it apart and on the back of the handle there is a C clip. once that C clip is removed you can slide the old button out and replace it with a key. My suggestion would be to buy a pair of door locks and replace both so the keys match. You can also buy a lock set so the ign matches as well.

Re: Exterior Door Handle
Mine has both keyed from factory. I'm going to get the number and have botg doors, and the rear gate keyed alike. U just replaced the gate lock last year.

Re: Exterior Door Handle
Yup, just did it on my Suburban, the handles come apart completely and you can change the button. Just need to remove the snap ring that holds the button into the handle. Just be careful when removing the snap ring as there is a spring inside with the button and it will eject when the snap ring is removed.

Re: Exterior Door Handle
Most won't know or remember this, but in 1960 till about 67ish? It was illegal to enter or exit your vehicle from the drivers side (street side that's why none have locks). You probably seen in some old movies the driver sliding across the seat to get out. I always thought that was strange until I found out about the law.
I too added the lock to the drivers side. |
Re: Exterior Door Handle
bowtie bits sells a single lock cylinder and key for $27 or two lock cylinders with keys for $68. yes 27x2 is 54, but the keys wont match if you buy two singles.

Re: Exterior Door Handle
Perfect...thanks. I was told from a vendor "their tech team" needed to get back to me....and never did.
For parts like handles, locks, inner door parts, etc... is the quality about the same across the board? I ask, because just for locks, I have seen prices all over the map. Thanks Posted via Mobile Device |
