Does this look right?
3 Attachment(s)
I've been having some body work done at a place and, went over to look at it today. They replaced some of the floor and inner and outer rockers. The outer rocker doesn't meet up to the rest of the cab (look at top and bottom pic..doesn't look like there will be enough of a lip for the door to seal to) Also, they welded the seem of the rocker on one side but not the other. This definitely doesn't look right to me, what do ya'll think? To me, it looks like the wrong rockers were welded in. Here's some pics.

Looks normal to me. I'm new to these trucks but I replaced my rockers last month

Re: Does this look right?
The pic at the bottom just doesn't seem right. Not only the around 1/4" gap between the two pieces, but the fact that they don't line up front to back. Looks like it needs to come forward about 1/4". Although I didn't take a pic of it, the driver side is not like that. Also, they were not like that originally.

Re: Does this look right?
the repro rockers don't fit that great, compared to originals, I had to do some creative shaping with a hammer to get the final part of the front to fit...
however, they need to mount the doors first, then set the rockers in the correct spot (line them up with bottom edge of the door.), and weld them in after that. you need to get some doors over to them, so they can make sure the rockers are in the right spot. I also mounted my fender and cowl panel just to be sure it all lined up before I welded the rocker in place. |
Re: Does this look right?
That little gap? The one where the rubber seal gets mounted? That's about normal for an aftermarket rocker you wont see it after the seal is on it.

Re: Does this look right?
I'm not defending sloppy work, but that looks about typical. To start with the reproduction rockers and related patch panels usually don't fit that good and need some massaging to make them right. I agree with Jon. The doors must be in place to check the door gaps whenever any parts are being replaced that affect the door opening.

Re: Does this look right?
To those that said they needed the doors for proper fit, they have them. If that is the best it's going to get, I'm disappointed but, I guess I'll just have to live with it. Thanks to all for the input.

Re: Does this look right?
This is why you hear everyone complain so much about the poor quality of the reproduction replacement parts. The end result is ultimately up to the people working on your truck and how much work you are willing to pay them to do.
