new door seal installation
 

I am installing new door seals that mount to the cab. This is being a pain in the but! Is there a good way to do this? I tried starting in the "square" corner and taping it in place but it keeps pulling down. What is the proper way to glue the seals into place? can you just use a silicone? I can get all the scrap silicone I want from work. what have you guys used and have you used masking tap to help hold it into place while the glue dries?

just to kinda go off on a tangent there are a lot of door seals out there that are too thick and the door won't close so i suggest you just tape them in place first to make sure they're ok before you have 8 feet of glue to scrape back off..the third set i bought actually worked...there are also push on types that dont require glue but these are also thicker and might be hard to close (mine were already installed before i found ouy about those)normally you put them on with 3m weatherstrip adhesive,not silicone

I bought the black sealant/glue that they recommended with the door rubbers on LMC. I didn't know you get different thickness, but the seals were as thick as the old ones, so I also started on the corner, and just glued from the start. You might have to stand there holding the rubber in place for 3-5 minutes, but then you just go from there. Remember to cut a hole/slot where the two ends meet for the door to close easier.

What exactly do you mean hole/slot? Can u send a picture? Don't you just butt splice them together

Did you put glue on the inside and outside of the cab rail?

I used push on door seals from a 90's truck from the junkyard. $10 and 10 minutes.

Pain in the butt job!!
Use the 3m adhesive.
Start at the top. Line it up so the part line is on the door sill. Mock it up.
Put the 3m in the groove. Only about 6 inches at first. Push the rubber onto the rail. Pull it away slightly and back into place. Keep doing that until the glue on the channel sticks to the rail. You need to bond the glue in the channel to the glue on the rail. And get the air out from between. You'll hear the air squish out. It'll stay in place, but it takes awhile. If it starts to sag, just work it on and off slightly. Once that piece stays in place, do another 6 inches right beside it. It might take 2 to 3 hours per door.

I used 3M Hi-Strength Adhesive and plenty of tape. Worked very well.

from the factory they were only glued on the outside...leave a little gap under the sill plate to let the air escape

Sorry for taking so long with a picture. I only learned about the notch you need to cut out after the seal was already installed, that's why my cut was a bit choppy. I'm still planning to remove the rust/get new step sills, so you can ignore the ugly rusted stuff.
