Why is it so hard
Why is it so hard to get information about 6 lug rims? Rallies are great and so are steelies but I want shinny. Chrome or polished. I have searched and still can’t find the answer. I know others have asked too with no luck too. I thought I had back spacing figured out and when I started talking to wheel companies they asked about offset which proceeded to blow everything I thought I knew out of the water. I am sure there is a lot of different choices on front, back, back spacing, width, diameter and offset. I am just really frustrated on my search for a tire wheel combo that won’t cost more than I paid for the truck. Can anyone help me out? Looking for a good set up for 20’s with a 6 lug for a 67 step with a 3-6 static drop. I don’t have a retailer close so I have to order them and have them delivered so I get only one shot at this. I have 20's on my 67 fleet that are 10" wide front and rear. 275x45 tires The rims are both 0 offset making the hub basicly in the center of the rim. I got the rims cheap so I decided to make them work. With this calulator you can see what difference a change in offset does to the distance from the rim to the inside and the out side of the rim. You can also change the width and see what difference it makes. With my setup I had to add a 1.5" steel spacer to the rear and nothing in the front. My rims are closer to the outside of the fender than i would like but there is nothing rubbing so I am happy. I have bags and dropped spindles making the total drop in the front about 3-4 and the back 5. Nothing radical it's just what I like. So below is what the last company sent me and it seems odd. I know during my search's most guys are running 4.5 -5 backspacing
"Ok, so here's where we're at. The Torque Thrust would just be an option in 20" with a chrome finish for your truck. The issue with those though is concerning the offset. The lowest offset they are available in for this fitment is with a positive 19 offset. Your Chevy has basically a very low, or negative offset. Long story short, that positive offset would sit more inward than the stock wheels do, meaning you'd have to run a spacer along with it to get it pushed back outward" |

Here is a 6 lug option hood for you. JR5's from Hot Rods By Boyd. Come in painted or polished and in any size you need. The guys at HRBB are super helpful.

20x8.5 fronts with 4.5 off set and 20x10 rear with 5.5 off set

The problem that you're running into is that 6 lug wheels just aren't that popular for classics.
They are, however, popular for new trucks as GM has been 6 lug for quite some time, but as your finding out, most 6 lug wheels have a lot of positive offset as they're meant for newer trucks (look at any modern Silverado and see how close the hub is it outside the wheel), so as mentioned by the wheel seller above, you would need a spacer with most 6 lug wheel choices. Terrible wheel selection for 6 lugs is why most of us go with the corvette or truck style rally wheel... or swap to 5 lug. |

Another reality for the late model 6 lug wheels is that the hub pilot hole is too small for these early trucks that have the same hub diameter as the 4x4. This is another reason people uses spacers.
While a little more work up front, for me, the switch to 5 lug at the time I did the disc conversion was a no brainer. Made buying wheels relatively easy and increased the choices exponentially. |

Those are nice rims but again I didn't pay that much for the whole truck,even if I am in the process of retouching everything on it. I was trying to keep the feel of the 67 with a touch of new. There has to be something out there that work and looks good. I just have to keep searching I guess.

Unfortunately, the harsh reality is you can't have your cake and eat it too. The wheels in the sub 1k range are 15 inch oem from 1987 back, and aftermarket eagle alloys and centerlines in all the billet styles of the 90's.
Rallies, slots, wagon wheels, 10 holes, 8 holes, turbines, steelies, and a select few others will fall into the category of not worth more than your truck. Most of the aftermarket aren't providing custom old school 6 luggers with the needed offset for less than 1k, and even most of those are sketchy quality. |

I have Summit Legend wheels on my truck. They are 17x9 rear and 17x8 front. $160 and $150 respectively. They make a 6 lug version as well.

Ya I've been running into the same issue trying to find some wheels for my 67 6lug'r. I do really like slotted mags but I want to go Chrome. I've had polished wheels and unless your parking it in a garage 24/7 you will be working them all the time to keep them nice.
I've got an entire 71 front disc brake setup, leaning towards just installing that and converting the rear to 5 lug. It's really the only way I'm going to get something I will be happy with. Good Luck! |

Couldn't find the Summit wheel on the site anymore, but cross-reference to this Vision rim. This one is 17x8 6 on 5 1/2" but only $126.

CPP has a 5 lug rear axle conversion for 67 for under $400 part number 6569RACK
Go with a 5 lug disk conversion and you ahead that way too. 6370SWbk-5 for around 800 |

I researched this long and hard with my 69. I could never find a wheel I truly liked for a price I was willing to spend. I ended up just swapping a 72 front and rear end out and making it 5 lug. It's just too easy to find nice wheels in the 5 lug pattern.
