Drive Shaft Length Comparison

Hey everybody,

I recently got a great deal on a Gear Vendor unit, the np205 it was bolted to, and the already shortened driveshaft for too good of a deal to pass up!

I have searched but have not found what the differences is between a square body chevy driveshaft length and a 71 chevy driveshaft length. Some details on both rigs: Standard cab, long bed, 4" lift, small block engine, sm465/np205. I want to know whether both driveshafts are interchangeable, that way the shortened driveshaft will bolt into my 71 without modifications when I install the GV unit. I did not get a chance to find out what year the square body is and my truck is parked at my parent's house so I can't get the details myself.

Thanks in advance!

Cody

well from what I know GM stretched the wheelbase in 73' when it's design changed then. They added 2 1/2" to the wheelbase on the Blazer so I would have to say no they are not interchangeable.

I'll add to that and say it could be possible it fits but you want to make sure you have enough left in the slip joint that the shaft won't pull apart or bottom out if its too long.

Ok I will try it and see if it works. Unfortunately it won't be for a couple of weeks. Thanks for the advice.
