Son's Build Thread

I started had a thread "help with an 85" but figured I would start an official build thread for my son's truck. Drove 4 hours to pick this up for him. 1985 and it's in great shape. Has a 305/TH350 combo. It also came with all of the history on the truck. The original owner purchased it new, gifted/sold it to her son or grandson and now we own it. He won't be driving until next year so we've got time to go through this and get it looking sweet by the time he starts driving on a regular basis.

Want to drop it and put some 18 chrome torque thrusts on it, clean up the engine / engine bay and turn the interior black.

Here are the pics of getting it home.

are there any wheel visualizer websites that we can check out? Everything I've found so far either doesn't have the year or it doesn't have any trucks.

I searched just about every wheel dealer site, and came up with nothing for our trucks. Then I spent hours on Google images searching, and went through (start to finish) both threads on here showing pictures of short beds. It's a bit tedious, but sounds like a job your son would be up for!

Here is what we came up with.

18 A/R Torque thrust M in chrome.

front has a 8" drop, rear is 6" LOL (i wish)

didn't have an option for tire sizes though.

He loved it.

Great starter truck! I used a Belltech drop kit on mine. It ended up being 7.5/5.5 by time I was done.

Bob - I'm putting the specs here in case anyone else needs the info.

Rear:
Wheels 20x10s, 5" backspacing
Tires are a 295/40/20
Beltech C-notch and flip kit
Beltech shocks

Front:
Wheels 20x8.5, 5" backspacing
Tires 245/40/20
Belltech 3" drop spindels, 1" dropped spring with 1 coil removed (I would start with 1/4 to a 1/2 coil at first).
Belltech shocks

Here's the Belltech kit I got.

Just make sure you order the right one for your truck, there's an HD (1.25" rotor) spindle and a LD (1" rotor) spindle. If you have any other questions, shoot me a text or give me a call (I think you still have my numberr...:D).

Thanks Rob, yep, still have your number and I'm sure I'll be in touch.

BTW,
I took a photo of the carb that is on the 305 motor. Looks like an 'electronic' quadrajet?

Looking to get rid of this and the 800 pounds of smog equipment and spaghetti vacuum lines all over the place.

I'm thinking a new edelbrock manifold and 600 cfm carb and a dual exhaust off the stock manifolds.

Anyone know what plug size I'll need to plug the a.i.r. port on the manifolds?

I'm open to any advice on removing the smog junk. I believe I'll need to do something to the distributor as well due to the electric carb?
