72 Blazer to buy

1 Attachment(s)
I had a 72 Blazer that I drove in high school, loved the thing. Now in an attempt to relive my youth I would like to restore one. I stopped to look at one today and wanted to run it by you. It has been a few decades since I owned one and don't know what I used to know about them.

Its in pretty rough shape but is optioned nicely so I am debating on whether it is worth the effort or not. Rockers need replaced because of rot. Entire right rear quarter panel needs replaced from being hit. Left rear quarter panel needs a patch about 36 square inches. It has a few other minor dings. Top in great shape, never appears to have been taken off. Hood good, doors ok. Front fenders ok. Tailgate ok. Original color was ochre.

It has the original 350 and original 205 transfer case. still runs and drives. Factory options include:
Body side molding,
Posi,
Manual throttle,
Power steering,
4 season AC,
Auto trans,
Comfortilt steering,
Tachometer

Not that you can say what it is worth without seeing it, but if you have an idea, please share

The sheet metal repairs you mentioned are minor, because all the panels including full quarters are now available. 10 years ago I'd probably be looking for one in better shape, but today I'd grab that truck if the price was right.
As far as what it's worth, it's worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. You'll never lose any money on it because these trucks will only go up in value.
Go for it !!:canada:

Actually if you're not a good bodyman or have a shop do all the work you could lose a lot of money lol Those repairs are extensive on a blazer & not for the faint of heart. Better be a $1000 blazer if it's that rusty or less lol Running & driving helps but most likely needs a rebuild too unless already done. Maybe $2g depending on drivetrain.

Sorry dubs, but "better be a $1000 blazer" Really? it being a '72 means it probably has the single wall top. That alone with a good hatch will fetch $1000. I will admit that I am in California, and our trucks don't get too horrible around here, but even a rust bucket 1st gen K5 will fetch 3-4k if its running and driving.
They only made these trucks for 4 years, and people are starting to realize they are desirable. Its worth whatever someones gonna pay for it, but im sure its gonna cost over $1,000 probably in the 2,500-4000 range depending on actual condition.

If your comfortable with the price, buy it. If its too much for you to spend and feel good about it, wait around.

Well-optioned truck, 3K seems fair if it runs and drives.

Don't think the top is single wall. That's a double wall top. Check out the steering wheel. No cracks ?? I'm from Calif and that's a 3-4k truck all day and here in S.Carolina a 5k truck easy.

Nice speaker mounting. I appreciate when owners try not to hack things up to put a bigger speaker in.
