bedliner?
I'm thinking of getting bed liner put in, but im not sure whats good out there. I want something tough that wont just get scrached off. Anyone have a recommendation for a place or a diy product? If you have pictures i wanna see how each turned out.

Used raptor liner. Kit with spray gun $120 on ebay. Very happy with results. Will take some pics and post tomorrow after work.

Re: bedliner?
4-5 months. In my 71Blazer. I've had bicycles, tool boxes, car parts on it. Haven't scratched it yet. Can't speek to its durability long term but seems to be a quality product. I used there gun and shot it at 42psi. At a distance of about 12". Has a nice splatter affect. Put three coats on it. Prep is key. If it's not raining when I get home I'll snap some pics.

Re: bedliner?
I was thinking of a bed liner as well and was looking at a plastic liner. I was surprised when a place I called said they could get me a new bed liner for my 79 short bed. They want 200.00 for it but I am still weighing my options but my truck bed is pretty beat up already so a plastic bed liner probably wouldn't make it look any worse.

Re: bedliner?
I have had drop in, sprayed in Rhino Liner, and Bedrug.
Bedrug was the best to use - covers the space between the tailgate and the end of the bed, cushions the load. Negatives: traps water under the carpet (would it lead to rust?), traps tiny wood slivers when you transport osb or plywood. Rhino Liner was OK - I had it sprayed on the cab floor also. Negatives; "cottage cheese" texture wore off where my feet rubbed on the driver's side floor, floor was slippery when wet in the same location, transmission hump got very hot due to no insulation, bed had a stain from spilled chemical cleaner (don't believe that it is resistant to chemicals.) Drop in liner is OK - rubs off paint in the bed, space between tailgate and end of bed not covered. You can get a "Paint Saver Pad" to put under the liner to supposedly stop paint scratching, or just put 1/4 thick microfoam there to get the same effect. I suppose the best would be Line-X sprayed in covered with Bedrug. I think Bedrug no longer makes a 73-87 liner. |
Re: bedliner?
Spray on pro job line-x is a little better then rhino to me,It looks better and takes a beating better. If your looking for budget i like monstaliner its roll on and comes in a ton of colors.

Re: bedliner?
I have had the RhinoLiner for 5 years or so and like it. No issues with it.
The issue with bed rugs or drop in liners is that they trap water and encourage rust. |

I'm a fan of drop in liners with a rubber mat. I like the protection of the liner and no sliding with the mat, without it being permanent like a spray on liner that can still get dents and turn chalky after years of sun exposure. I would hate to try to strip a professionally sprayed one out bc we wire wheeled a herculiner one out and that was awful to say the least.
My 86 looks to have had a drop in liner installed when it was new or fairly new. I removed it a few months ago and the original paint was still extremely nice underneath with ZERO rust after 29 years. Plus I didn't have to grind any of the crap off, just waxed the tubs and called it good. I did buy a bedmat for it to keep stuff from sliding though. My .02 is that for the money a drop in/mat is the way to go |
Re: bedliner?
heat gun and scraper can remove most bedliners but it takes forever on something big like a bed.

Re: bedliner?
I scuffed and painted on the rustoleum bed liner coating. Probably not as tuff as the rhino or other "kits" but for $42 not bad at all. I painted it on, and it applied like liquid tar and is textured. Dries nice and hard, not like paint at all. If you don't haul a lot of "scrapey" stuff then your good. If could scratch under heavy duty stuff like tossing in bricks or stone, etc. However, they also have the same stuff in a touch up spray which is great for, well, touching up spots. Get a cheap 4 inch brush, applies easy, no rolling or kits needed.
