Core Support

Will this 1977 K1500 radiator core support work on a 1974 C20? I find online that it says it works on a 1975 but doesn't list the 1974. The holes below the headlights seem to be different. Some years are ovals and some are round... like below.

Re: Core Support
I was told that the rad support is good from 73-80 BUT I am building a 74 that came in basically as a frame and drivetrain. I threw on a 79 core support I had and the issue is that the 74 has a hood latch that opens from a single release in the grille.. the 79 came with an interior release. My cab is definitely a 74 as I have the vin plate and title and it would need to have a couple of holes drilled for the interior hood release as there is no provisions for it in the 74. if you're a decent metal guy you can prolly fab the correct piece you need for the top of the core support . The other issue is the 79 has grille mounts that bolt into the top edge of the two posts that run down the front of the core support and the 74 has brackets that mount tot he sides it appears. Im working on modifying the 79 support as we speak I will take pics and post

Re: Core Support
The grill mounting brackets is where they are different the 73-74 middle brackets are welded to the support and the later 75-80 bolt on to keep the original grill only the outer and the center support are used and the holes have to be drilled for outer but the radiator support should be dimpled we're the brackets goes

this is the pics of the 74 hood latch with the 79 core support also note the 74 appears to have a more concave center part of the grille support than a 79 the one sitting there in the pics is the 74

Re: Core Support
Yeah, I understand now.
All I need is the main radiator support and then transfer all my existing parts over (top support, latch, headlights, etc), but I wasn't dialed in on the grill issues. I'm better off being patient and getting a clean, straight '74, making life much simpler! Thanks guys! |
Re: Core Support
There was an optional inside hood release from 78-80. It takes the same core support, but the top bar is different to accommodate the inside release. You can change the top bar if you want to go with the normal outside release.
