First ls swap

I have a 69 gmc and planning to put 5.3 in it. I have a 2011 Tahoe doner truck. Looking for advice. Should I use perches or the original motor mounts. Also can I use the stock transmission cross member or get an after market one. If after market, which one? Only found ones for t350 or 700r4.

Re: First ls swap

The crossmember for the 350 and 700r4 should be the same one. It will work for your swap. If the crossmember will work for the 700, it will work for the 4L60E.

I stripped a 2004 GMC Savana and put the drive train ( 4.8l and 4l80e), wiring harness, dash cluster and steering column into my 68 short/wide. If you'd like to thumb through my build thread, I hope you find helpful info.

I cut a set of adapter plates out of some 1/4" steel - see my build thread for details. For a transmission crossmember for a 4L60E, I just drilled a few holes to relocate my stock one.

If that Tahoe has a 6speed auto, the trans is a little bit larger but you should still be able to make the stock xmember work. The trans crossmember on most of the old trucks is just a bar with 4 bolts holding it it. All you really need to do is set the engine combo in, then slide the crossmember back as needed and drill a few new holes.

The trans mount might be a tad different as well (the 4l80e has a different mount than the 60e/th350/700r4, and I'm not sure what style the 6speeds use).
