All around performer
I want to build my 73 to compete with all the new sports cars. This will be a full interior, AC, and all the bells and whistles of a "new" truck. If a newer car wants to get froggy I don't want to have to give up when a corner comes up. Suspension will consist of PB touring front and rear dropmembers with coli overs. My biggest question is would you go 4l80e or 6 spd manual? I want good numbers on the strip and autocross type events. I am also open to any/all recommendations.

Re: All around performer
Strip and twisty stuff are two different worlds. Autos are great for consistent number on the strip but I wouldn't want it when playing in the twisty world. Manual for auto-x, track days and mountain roads, hands down. Daily driver, stuck in traffic, auto.
Biggest advantage with a manual is it won't downshift/upshift when you don't want it to. Even a manually shifted auto doesn't respond the same as a manual trans. |
Re: All around performer
Definitely 6 spd. Thats what i have in my 77 that i'm building road race/touring style.

Re: All around performer
I'm not looking for the fastest times on the strip, I just know that I will take it there every once in a while. The have a pretty regular autocross event near me so I would like to take this old truck out there and surprise some people.
