1969 blazer vin ?

I bought a 69 blazer and every vin decoder I check says it is a pickup truck vin number but after doing some searching over the net I have found several different people with 69s and there vin shows the same thing. Is this just a 69 thing that chevrolet screwed up on or what? The vin is BKE149S867***

I wouldn't necessarily describe it as a Chevrolet "screw up", as the various program teams can assign the VIN structure as they see fit. In other words, they could choose to use a separate VIN structure for various engines, or assign a specific VIN for "SS" models (or not), usually for warranty tracking purposes.

"Chevrolet" may have decided that it was not significant to track Blazers separately from pickups and may have authorized this particular VIN structure as a conscious decision, or so they could appropriate that space for some other purpose.

...OR...

;)

Maybe St Louis screwed up and assigned the pickup codes to the Blazer body types, in ignorance or defiance of direction from Central Office. It would be interesting to know if the other VINs you saw that were like this were all from St Louis only, or if the other assembly plants coded them this way as well.

Any idea what the "B" stands for?

The "S" is for St Louis, so you are indicating that all the trucks you have looked at are from the same assembly plant.

Yes every person on the net that has a 69 blazer with a vin number like this the first seven digits are exactly like that so if the s stands for st louis then yes they all seem to have come from the same plant.

I'm in the process of buying a 1969 Blazer and the first 7 digits on the vin tag are BKE149S same as ones above!

Re: 1969 blazer vin ?

1970 and up does not have the "B" as the first digit. That was a 1969 feature.

Re: 1969 blazer vin ?

My 69 blazer is a BKS1469S . I was under the understanding that the 3rd digit is the engine designation mine is a S that mean 6cyl and the 9 is for 1969 and the S is for StLouis assembled Id like to know if mine was built before or after the Sept 1968 through Feb 1969 Labor strike

Re: 1969 blazer vin ?

Since most new models are introduced in September I'd say the odds of being built prior to a Sept-Feb strike are pretty dang low.

I think in those days the unveiling happened at each dealer in early Sept for the new models so if I had to speculate, they would start producing next year’s models in June ( I know we did at Mitsubishi)

June is way too soon for production.

One might do proto/pilot builds in June but GM doesn't start early regular production until August for a September launch.

Here are some Pontiac Motor Division start/stop dates, so you can see what is typical, at least for GM.

Plus - I have some first hand experience with getting vehicles built during a September strike.

Body was built first week of September, 1964. Shipped 9/18/64, invoiced 9/21/64. Strike started 9/25/64.

Thank you;

Interesting, too, that the serial numbers started at 800001 (as opposed to 100001, or I've also seen 500001 for GMC and 600001 for 6 cylinder).
