Convert 1953 door to 1950 mechanicals
I have a nice pair of patina 53 doors that I would rather have the one piece windows and 'fridge door handles.
I acquired a rusty pair of 50 doors that has all the parts that I want to swap into my patina doors. Is this a bolt in or is there differences in the door shell? I also plan to change to bear claw latches and power windows during this procedure Anyone done this that could share info? |

Anyone? I guess I can do a "how to" or "How not to" on this!

It is easiest to just find a 47-50 door. If you were going with the stock latch you would also have to modify the pillar area. Bearclaws will make a nice latch.

It's so funny, I am going to do just the opposite because my theme is 1953ish GM "Dream Car". I am going to be putting the push button handles on. And I LOVE those swing handles but it doesn't match the theme. And I have NOS swing handles and latches! (No they aren't for sale sorry)

Adryancyt's Post number 12 on the thread from the Hamb is well detailed for doing the swap.
I would suggest getting the lengths of channel that are long enough to go clear around the glass and down the sides rather than trying to connect the pieces together though. You should be able to order long enough lengths from the local autoglass shop. You want the glass shop that has been in business for ever and does all kinds of auto and vehicle glass and not the quickie glass shop that just replaces windshields and late model door glass. |
