Beer keg fuel tanks

I asked this before, but since the search option isn't working, I wanted to ask again. Has anyone built tanks like this or know where or if you can buy these tanks? Here is a pic of a set on an old ford. If i had to have them built, would it be very difficult to set my 72 up for dual tanks?

landon4421 09-11-2003 02:24 PM

A buddy of mine made one out of a keg, a coors light keg. Dont have pics but if I ever see him again I will ask him. Dont know how long he is locked up for this time, DUI he will never learn! It was pritty cool he built it for his pull truck.

hows it going tim?

dubie 09-11-2003 02:28 PM

it's going alright here bud. The truck is moving VERY slow, but everything else is good. I just e-mailed Labatts and asked if they have kegs for sale. I guess the only thing you would need is a baffle inside, a hole for the filler neck, sending unit , fiel line and....???

landon4421 09-11-2003 02:31 PM

Ya he did some cutting to it to get all the lines and such in to it, but I have not seen the truck in like 2 years. So I can not remember. I will go out and see if he left the truck at his parents house if so i will take some pics. Landon

thanks a bunch bud!! :D

I have access to a couple dozen kegs, but I imagine shipping wouldn't make it feasable. Let me know if I can help in anyway. Kind of a novel idea!

dubie 09-11-2003 03:48 PM

What kind of weight are we looking at for 2 of them? And what are you lookin at for the cost of 2
Thanks Charlie

Charlie Coleman 09-11-2003 04:09 PM

dubie

I am going to guess at the weight....probably 15 lbs each
And I would sell them for $15 (US) each plus shipping.

Charlie, Could you maybe check the shipping to 41005. I wanna make my '67 a pulling truck now and need a fuel cell. thanks.
Brandon

I tried to estimate via the UPS website. It tells me "Package exceeds the maximum size total constraints of 130 inches (length + girth, where girth is 2 x width plus 2 x height)". I don't know how to get around the system for an estimate.

dubie 09-11-2003 04:44 PM

how many gallons do these hold? and what is the overall size of them?

Charlie Coleman 09-11-2003 04:56 PM

They are considered a half barrel. They are the same keg you would get when you go to your favorite liquor store for the "big" party. They are 16 gal. I guessimate the height to be 30-36" x 24" or so wide. I don't have one around to measure right now or I would.

landon4421 09-11-2003 05:08 PM

are these 1/2 kegs ( pony kegs ) or are they full kegs?

Charlie Coleman 09-11-2003 05:11 PM

Landon,

They are full kegs, not pony. Pony's are 8 gal (considered 1/4 barrel) and the 16 gal kegs are 1/2 barrels.

landon4421 09-11-2003 05:15 PM

The prior post had me confuse, I read again and realized that they were full kegs, sorry ! Landon

dubie 09-11-2003 05:18 PM

I'll keep ya in mind Charlie. i'm gonna sk the guys at the local liquor store if they might have some lickin around or if they know where I can find some locally. Plus I am waiting to hear back from Labatts brewery of Canada

Thanks for all your help and info

oldsub86 09-11-2003 05:56 PM

Dubie

Why wouldn't you just get kegs and then "empty" the contents and fail to return them? I expect there is a deposit but the contents are good!:D

dubie 09-11-2003 06:25 PM

sounds like a great plan, but I don't drink :D

stelth2002 09-11-2003 07:45 PM

I dont know about other places, but here you have to register everything with the state, and if you dont return them its like a mistiminor or some crap. But hey that idaho for ya

67cst 09-11-2003 08:01 PM

Yeah: it's called THEFT.

They make aluminum and stainless kegs. I hade a 28 international milk truck in college that we used a 15.5 gallon stainless keg on the sloped front roof for gravity gasoline. Used stainless because no-one knew how to weld a fitting onto a aluminum tank.

Linus0014 09-12-2003 05:07 PM

Just go down to the Store where you rent the keg, drink all the beer out of it, and then just don't go back to get your deposit back. If I get one here in So Cal. its like 60.00 which included the tap.

1969 GMC 09-12-2003 06:06 PM

You can just purchase kegs and taps at certain liquor stores, its not that expensive. One of my friends owns two of her own kegs, Natty and MGD (I think). Keg beer is so great cuz it's so cheap. She throws a lot of parties too, and passes around a collection cup, to recoup the costs FAST.
