GMC rare Contender trucks update

1 Attachment(s)
The only information we have found on this truck was in this forum.
This Contender sat parked for 20 years and my son is working on getting the 350 running. But due to the rarity of the model we thought it might be a good idea to reach out to any restoration people for interest and further recommendations.
Please see the attached pic of the package list. The truck still has its 'contender' decals.

I've only ever heard of it on this board. We need more pics! Is it still wearing the factory colors?

The only "Contenders" I know of are in boxing and from Thompson Center. Neither are trucks. :)

What's a "Chevy Contender?"

The " Contender" package consisted mainly of decals. It was one of many regional promotions that GM used to try and sell more trucks, like the the "turkey feather" trucks, and the later years "Gentleman Jim" and "Beau James" editions. I'm not sure how rare they are, but looking at the spid, it is a highly optioned truck and would make a nice restoration. You could probably have a graphics shop make new decals for it.

Not a ton of info, but there. Then gets a little off subject

No such thing. GMC only.

Is this the same contender from the other post? I'm curious if they were all optioned similar or not. That dealer must have sold a lot of inventory to have ordered 150 GMC trucks in the same color

Edit: from reading the ad again on the other post, it would appear the contender package was sold through many dealers. It said something like 340 dealers were attending the event. I'm wondering too if the package made its way onto Jimmy's or suburbans too. Reminds me of the Timberliner package sold on 1971 trucks through Missoula, MT

Re: GMC rare Contender trucks update

It was a dealer (regional?) promo, not factory. The options shown are all normal options found on any truck that wanted them and no mention of the contender package. The factory promos were listed on the SPID. Your best bet will be finding someone who was involved in GMC Truck sales in the region during this time period. But I think all there is to it is restore the truck per the SPID and have stickers made and put them on
