Here I am Again
Well my engine builder has decided to not have me paint his car in trade for the BBC I wanted. I'm sure it was his wife she gives me a dirty look every time I see her...So I'm going back to my very original plan of either a 4.8/5.3L with the mid rise dual plane since I have two perfectly good 1850 Holley carbs. About the only thing I might do is change out the heads to some that are ported since the cam will have 227/235 duration at .050 and .614/.621 lift. According to Comp Cams Dyno Sim it will make 507HP at 6500rpm and 447 lbs of torque at 5000rpm.
Still going to use the 4L80E with the "Black Box" and either a toggle for OD or add a mph switch. That's life... |

Hey, for all you know, you might have just been handed a gift. You get to spend soooo much more time with me now ;)
I'll tell you firsthand, going to a nice set of ported heads (in my case milled and ported and blended) REALLY feels good. Obviously you get the power and the gains in flow, especially with a large cam and carb setup like that...but the gain in throttle response, minimization of surge, and ease of part throttle driving is such a huge benefit. If you do go with a ported head, I would strongly consider going with a larger valve setup as well, even on those smaller motors. If you want to spin the thing a bit with that cam, the extra few thou over will be good for you. |

I actually plan to use ported heads with bigger valves like the 243 heads then shave a pinch off to get them back down to 61cc chambers. I may even revisit extruded honing them too.
Br3w did you have to make an adapter plate to mount the 4l80e in your truck or just redrill holes? The stock emergency brake stuff will be gone and I will be adding the E-Stopp to it. |

My 6.0 has the spacer built onto the flywheel already, so my 4l80e bolted right up. No holes to drill at all.
