Loud squealing sound!? Help please

I just notices this sound about a month ago. It sounds like the breaks are squealing off and on. This happens at random times and I have checked both sides of the front breaks and they are fine. I have also checked the bearings and they are fine as well. I have checked everything I can think of and am coming up with a blank. Has this happened top anyone or does anyone have any suggestions or know what it could be. The sound is coming from the front of the truck only when driving it above 20MPH. It is a high pitched sound. Please help anyone. Thanks

It looks and sounds like it's happening when you're depressing the clutch, correct?

Kinda sounds like it's in the cab, the clutch pedal spring maybe?

Throw out bearing on its way out....that's my guess.

Good guess - especially if the squeal changes with clutch position and is under the front of the tunnel. I've heard that one before and wound up replacing the clutch assembly due to release bearing wear. A longer shot, but could be the main shaft bearing (big one) in the 4 speed - been there as well.

Waiting could lead to a bigger fix.

It seems to make that sound at different times. I was just pushing the clutch in so you could here it better. I just had the clutch replaced 1 1/2 years ago and I don't drive it much. Don't pay attention to the sound when I engage the clutch, the squealing happens with and without clutch engaged.

Is the clutch linkage adjusted incorrectly to when engaged the throw out fork still has a small amount of pressure on the throw out bearing against the P-Plate?

I can see that, but why does the sound come and go. There will be times where you won't hear it for a while and then it just starts up squealing again. This happens at different speeds as well.

Did you ever figure this out? I'm battling what seems to be about the same thing...

We I finally have some good news. The bad thing is that it took my mechanic 3 days to figure it out and he went crazy doing it. He went thru the entire truck from back to front with no luck, pulled all the tires, check bearing, anything rubbing, clutch, I mean everything. On the third day his partner that was riding in the truck with his had a idea. He wanted to out a bag over the front grille and drive it down the road again. Magically the sound did not happen. The sound that has been driving me and my mechanic crazy is the whistling coming from the new grille I installed last fall. Now what are the odds of that happening. Has anyone else heard or had this problem in the past? I guess if i can't alter the grille enough to make it stop i will be getting something different.

Wow...never heard of that. My problem ended up being a messed up brake pad...

Spidermn, did you fix the squeal or remove the grille? I have been having similar squeal and just the other day thought it may be the billet grille. I was thinking of adding rubber washers at attach points. Or remove it, drive truck for the week and see if that clears it up.

Wow, what a strange coincidence. I am having a similar whining noise and just finished rebuilding everything cosmetically to include a new billet grill! I may pull it out and see if it stops it. I'm still trying to figure out why I'm only getting 6 mpg with a 307 though, I need to probably have someone better than me adjust the carb to fix that!

Re: Loud squealing sound!? Help please

I took the grille off and placed a bead on silicon on every louver and that fixed the squealing sound.

Thanks for the update. Going to get on that this weekend!!!

spidermn, a bead of silicone on every louver? I'm not following you, just a small bead on every opening to change the wind flow? Thanks!

Check the retaining clips for the calipers. They may not be seated tight and moving around hitting the rotors.

Spidermn, anyway you can send pics showing where you actually applied the silicone

Re: Loud squealing sound!? Help please

66clow, I feel the grille is making the load hum. But, I do have another annoying wine that may be the clips. Originally thought this other noise was a belt, pwr steering or even the new alternator I installed. I replaced alternator again, tighten belt, did nothing to pwr steering pump. This nice I am chasing even sounds like a air leak/whistle. I had mechanic ck and he said all hoses were good and could not find air leak. I will ck calipers. Anyone else with ideas?

Update: I removed the bullet insert, too for test drive and both annoying hums are gone. I just picked up some black silicone, going to run a bead on backside of every louver and put rubber washer at every attach point. Hopefully when I reinstall, the hum's will not return!!!
