Steering ghost

I have a 72 c10. The steering worked perfect it just leaked a lot. So I put new seals in the steering gear. I'm trying to bleed the air after putting the gear back on. The steering wheel turns fine in both directions with the tires lifted engine not running. When I start the engine the steering wheel will turn on its own slowly to the drivers side and in takes all my strength to turn in to the passenger side. What is going on? Thanks

No chance the pump fittings are reversed? That could be what caused the original seals to blow in the first place.

Pump fittings reversed!

The fittings can't be reversed. They are different sizes I think. Are they different sizes.

Some are, some aren't you didn't really say what type of steering box you had.
I have an after market rack and pinion, seems to be based on an 80's Thunderbird.
Mine are the same.

A friend of mine got new braided stainless lines (and a new chrome pump) to hook up to a stock box. (The kind on the side of the frame). The fittings ends were different sizes. (To the steering box) However the connections to the pump were the same size.

They could be reversed at the pump, or at the steering box. Now, I believe you when you say they are different sizes and you put them back as they were before this started. However, it could be that whoever installed this originally put the wrong fitting on the wrong hose (been there, done that).

It may be something else, but the symptoms are exactly what happened when I reversed mine.

I will try to flip the hoses, but I'm sure they are different sizes. I will let you know the verdict.
