Did I get the wrong drop springs?

2 Attachment(s)
I got the nose finished up on my suspension drop (ended up taking it back apart and doing a full rebuild) and after driving around the block to settle the springs, the nose is really down low.

I started with (all heights are center of fender):

Front +/- 31-3/4"
Rear +/- 33-7/8"

I thought I ordered a 3.5/5 drop (2.5" spindle, 1" spring)

After the front end settled:

Front +/- 27-1/2"
Rear +/- 29"

So the back dropped a little less than 5"... makes sense the old springs probably had a little sag to them.

But the front dropped almost 4.5"? I also knew there would be some camber issues I would need to address after the drop, but there appears to be some serious tilt to my front wheels. Getting the tires back in line may raise the nose back up 1/2" or so? Did I get a 2" spring instead of 1"?

I really like how the truck looked in the pic below, but the springs have settled almost another inch since this pic, the tires are up into the fender wells now. It was too dark for a pic, Ill take one tomorrow if it's not pouring rain again.

I'm doing a wheel/tire swap on the front as well. Going from an 8" rally with 235/75/15 to a 7" rally with the same BS with a 215/75/15.

I don't know about the parts but you nailed the stance I'm after. Where did you order your drop kit from?

ECE.

The problem is that pic is before I drove it. Front springs settled in their pockets and it's almost an inch lower now. I want it to look like the pic again :thud:

They weren't open at 10pm when the truck came off the jack. Literally thousands of people on this forum have used them, looking for feedback before I bother them. Maybe the fender heights I gave are normal for a 3.5/5.

We are talking 3/4" up front, not a drastic difference in my opinion. In my mind, I don't know how they can make a coil spring to come out to an exact rate of settlement, but somehow they do. And how much lower would it sit with a V8, especially a big block? I assume the truck was sitting in the same exact spot before drop and after? If not, it could be as simple as a variation in the concrete.

And, on a totally unrelated topic, I just had to send this your way:

Not sure if I'm going to mess with new springs, an inch might be too high? I did measure it in the same spot, but flipped it around to show the neighbors how awesome my truck looks

Before the springs settled there was fender space above the tire, now the tire is "inside the fender". There's only about 1/2" of clearance between the tire and inner fender on the outside.

I just ordered new BFG's for the truck that are in inch smaller than what's on it now (going to be a few day wait). I'll wait to see how it looks after that.

I ran into this exact same mess with my mustang. Stock springs were too high, 1" springs were too dang low and rubbed. I ended up going with a 3/8" spacer between the spring and tower, which raised the nose about 1/2"

aww damn dont tell me that. I have the same drop kit as you but POL drop springs and mcgaughy 2.5 spindles. after i put the motor and front fenders and grill on the stance was perfect, just above the wheel wells like you. 15x7 steelies with 225-70-15 cobras. so now that i drive it im going to lose some clearance?......bummer

Re: Did I get the wrong drop springs?

Crap.

Apparently I ordered a 4/6 (2.5 spindle, 1.5 spring.) For years I talked about the 3.5/5. Crap. Why the hell did I do that? I ordered it almost 2 years ago.

crap.

They gave me some heights to compare to. I won't be back home until tonight though. I'll probably just raise the nose 1/2" with a 1/4" spacer.

Did I say crap yet?

Just wanted to remind you.
Those 1" shorter tires might grant you some lip clearance; but they'll also make the overall front height an additional 1/2" lower as well.
FWIW, I think it looks great so long as there are no drive-ability issues.

Re: Did I get the wrong drop springs?

Play around with a half inch drop block in the back, theback will level plus when the weight shifts the front will raise slightly. Truck looks great

I'm just glad I'm not the only one who does that. Truck looks nice. I hope you find a way to get it where you want it to be. I even bet you could sell those springs and get the 1" higher one. They're brand new, right?

Re: Did I get the wrong drop springs?

Dang! That sucks. I've definitely been there. At least it's the same spindle, and the springs are reasonable for the 1/5s.

By the way. Your truck looks killer.

Thanks all, the laughs make me feel better (spent all day wet too... watched Clemson beat the snot out of GT in the rain!)

As of right now, with the wheel/tire I have, it's not very drivable. The 7" wheel will suck it back in an inch (has same BS as the 8") and the smaller tire should give some more clearance.

I don't want to raise it up much, I'll probably just get a set of 1/4" or 3/8" spacers (typically, you double the height when used on coil springs), like the one below, they fit in the spring pocket and the spring fits in them (stole random pic of the web).

Jesse, I will be watching this. The front wheels/tires on my 67 scrub inner fender when I hit a bump in the hwy. this with factory rally's. I am wondering what I will do to fix.
Am watching.

Pretty good at wasting time myself.

Got my "big n littles" installed today.

15x8 rear with 235/70/15 and 15x7 front with 215/75/15, both have 4" BS. With those sizes, the fronts are about 1/4" shorter than the back.

I think I might still want to go up a touch in the nose, but otherwise, MUCH better.

You can always try what I did, skinnier wheel with the same BS, that will suck it back into the fender, which is what I did. I put her through the paces today and never heard/felt a rub. Then you can pick out a skinnier tire, but has the same height (I'd go slightly smaller) than the back. This is a great tire size calculator that I used to help me.
