Was this worth $300 that I paid ??

I have been looking for a swb frame for awhile to swap the good stuff from my lwb to in order to have a swb truck. I found a bare frame (and I mean bare), pretty much the frame rails, here local but the guy wanted $400. Needless to say, I did not buy it. I thought about cutting my lwb down but really didn't want to mess up a good truck by doing that. So I just kinda quit looking and this fell into my lap. Couldn't turn it down. It's complete except no seat and a few minor things. I was on a farm all it's life and been sitting since 1996. It is not as bad as it looks. Was under a farm shed for a long time. It has the wood bed also. It s my truck's "mini me". Now both of my trucks are dark olive 71 GMC's with 350 eng. and TH350 trans.

What do y'all think?

Looks good. You could swap the frames and then sell the new one as a longbed!

You did pretty darn good! :)

Someone will be along shortly to tell you that it is a $3,000 truck.

Re: Was this worth $300 that I paid ??

Thanks guys. I thought I got a steal on it myself. I figured if nothing else I would have spare parts for my LWB. Now the dilemma, tear down a very nice (I think) LWB to make a SWB or just build the SWB and make any necessary repairs to the cab. It does have a small amount of rust but not as bad as it looks and no title but that's not a problem and not to mention the custom gas cap:lol: . I wanted a short wheel base before I bought the long one but I found the long one first (and I was excited) so I bought it. I have no need for 2 trucks so I think I'll put all my efforts and money into the SWB and sell what's left.
I am wanting to do an LS swap and give it an altitude adjustment to start with. Decisions, decisions:smoke:

according to the above prompt, "it looks like a $3000 dollar truck to me". Use the good stuff over on to the short frame, that way you can do the frame like you want while still driving. Then put the stuff off of the truck your driving on that frame.

Then you can make a lwb matching trailer:lol:

If you don't mind having two trucks why tear apart a nice LWB? Nothing against the guys that would do it but I know I wouldn't be able to do it.... By the way great score on the shorty.

This is your opportunity to build an epic truck. Do it, I did the same thing, put it all on a good short frame. You will get a lot of attention everywhere you go.

Looks to me like you have the short bed painted and then put your stuff on the frame and bang your short wheeling

Re: Was this worth $300 that I paid ??

Thanks again guys. I do have plans for it. I got a line on a 6.0 and a 4l80e out of a van. Waiting on the guy to give me a price. Was thinking of building a 383 stroker but really want a LS motor. Either way, it's gonna scream! Now I gotta buy a vehicle to drive while I tear down both trucks. The long one is my daily driver.
I have been battling cancer off and on for 4 years now and I have always wanted a 67-72 Chevy or GMC so I figured it's time. I bought the long one as a present to my self for beating cancer but it keeps coming back so I figure this truck will be special (and bad)!! Time will tell.

RenoKeene, Rose IS an American beauty. I love your truck. I may try to find me a step side bed for it. Not sure yet.

I'd say no, not a deal at all. I wouldn't have given more than $299, but it was your money/your decision. Nothing anyone can do about it now.

Heckya! Guys are asking more than that for just the frame and you got a little more than that! Doesn't look like you reallyneeded anything else, but for a guy with a totally from parts ground-up build (like me) that would provide all the little incidentals that individually would cost a good bit used and take all kinds of time to gather.

As far as getting a lot of attention everywhere you go, I don't know why you wouldn't have already been getting that with the truck as it is (talking about your longbed, not the parts truck). You have a very fine example of one of the finest trucks every produced, and a Sierra grande to boot! It's actually a shame to see it lose it's originality after all these years and being so nice. But I totally understand and this will be a very easy way to end up with a not so often seen SWB Sierra Grande... thought not authentic

The long one is my daily driver and it gets attention everywhere I go. Not a day goes by that someone doesn't pull up beside me on the interstate and give a thumbs up at least 4 or 5 times a day and can't even stop for gas sometimes without someone coming up and asking about it. That's a good feeling though. I feel like an ambassador for these trucks;)
Now you see my dilemma; tear up a good truck to make a good truck or apply for a lost title and build the short one. I do have two extra engines and a set of buddy buckets, an a perfect extra set of sierra grand emblems, AND, it is a factory air truck; hummmm:smoke:

Whatever I decide for the short one will be worth the lifelong wait. Shoot, it may even need wheelie bars:devil:

Thanks Special K and to all the others for the kind words.

I'm with the old school guys. If it were me I'd leave the long bed alone that thing is nice! And I would build a bad ass rat truck out of the short bed or do a show stopper if you have the funds. Either way you go you'll have 2 very sweet trucks

Re: Was this worth $300 that I paid ??

Leave the long one alone please and enjoy it, especially if that is your DD. I am partial to the long beds because I use all of the 8 foot bed when I haul, even lowered. Build out the shorty and keep your sexy green beast.
