Help finding dash pad dye for Charcoal Deluxe interior
I'm looking for the dye to refinish a dash pad for my 86. The SPID list the interior color as-- L18C CJJI Charcoal Deluxe. I've looked a few different products but can't find a match. Have any of you found a nice match for this color interior? If so, where did you find it and what was it? I also need to do all the trim pieces to put a headliner in. I assume it would be a different product being the trim is plastic and not vinyl. I've tried finding the pieces I need in the same color, but I have never been able to find another Charcoal interior truck.

Go to a store that sells auto body paint and supplies. There is a company by the name of SEM. They make automotive interior colors for plastic, upholstery, carpet, vinyl. Great products.

I did what hotrodder said . I went to a auto paint store and had them mix me a Qrt of trim paint with one of the small air trim guns . I painted all the trim pieces metal and plastic with the same paint . Worked good . Clean , clean , clean before you paint . That paint in a Qrt comes ready to spray also .

I changed my interior color from the maroon/burgundy color to the charcoal. I just painted all my orginal pieces with Buford's Vinyl & Carpet Dye. The color was called Graphite. I recovered my headliner myself and got new carpet.
This pic is after doing the headliner and all the interior trim. |

This is pretty much with everything done on the interior, including finding a period correct seat and having it recovered. The truck from the PO had a seat from the 90's.

I contacted them about using the vinyl I had left over from my seat reupholstery. All I had to do was send it to them and they made mine with my vinyl, so it matches perfectly. The whole process only took about a week after they received my vinyl. The one I got was called the BD Drinkster. |

Glad the SEM worked out good. I have used their products on several of the streetrods I have built, always looks good. I have seen a couple of them a few years later and they still look good.

Already been down the same road you're traveling. The SEM graphite in the link is the right color but doesn't have the right shine like factory. Might want a semi gloss or satin clear over it. |
