Big problem and I have no idea?!?!
I have a big problem Ive just recently got my pick up running and today I started it and I left it idle for some time and it the went to put it in revers and all of a sudden smoke came out from under the hood and I looked and the positive battery cable was so hot it was burning all the insulation off luckily I was able to get the battery cable off before a fire started. What would cause this?

Re: Big problem and I have no idea?!?!
A direct short. Trace your postive battery cable all the way back to the starter.

Re: Big problem and I have no idea?!?!
Well I need a new positive cable because it fried the insulation off what would cause the direct short?

Re: Big problem and I have no idea?!?!
Positive cable melted on the exhaust?

Re: Big problem and I have no idea?!?!
That could be what caused it I suppose how is the positive cable suppose to be routed so it doesn't do that?

Re: Big problem and I have no idea?!?!
Mine runs down from the battery to the frame and then through the motor mount to the starter.

Re: Big problem and I have no idea?!?!
The first place to look would be the starter solenoid. Make sure the terminal is not twisted. (Grounded to case) Remember that all metal parts are potential ground. This sounds like too many connections are on the solenoid terminal (and possibly shorted or the solenoid id shorted internally.
