Installing a passenger side mirror
 

so I started with a piece of cardboard for a template.
taped it to the door and used a razor blade to trim it to the shape of the door.
Then I found the 3 holes feeling around and dimpled the cardboard. Then I took a screwdriver and poked threw. Took the template off and flipped it over and installed it on the other side and taped it down. used a marker and the new mount a to make perfect circles. then a center punch. drilled very small holes just in case it did not line up. then a used a uni bit and drilled one hole. with the door panel removed i could see i nailed it perfect. next i installed the first bolt with mount so i could drill the next 2 holes perfect as well, you cant trust the marker circles 100% so only drill 1 hole from the marker and the next 2 off the mirror mount while its in place. if you drill the holes just right the bolts go in tight and all you need is lock tight.

That's basically what I did for my passenger mirror. It worked well. If wasn't sure if I could trust the bolts to stay tight so I went ahead and put nuts on the inside. Kind of a pain but I know it will stay.

If the bolts do manage to get loose over time I will definitely install some nuts

The driver side used nuts welded to the door structure so I figured it must be required on the right side as well. Since it's impossible to weld nuts inside the door and it's so difficult to reach the area and try to tighten all 3 screws I made a bracket to hold the nuts. A piece of sheet metal was cut such that it would clear other stuff in the area and 3 square nuts were welded to it. The door is not flat so the bracket was formed using the base of the mirror as the pattern. When done it was painted.

Once the bracket is done and you get 2 screws started the 3rd is easy and tightening them is even easier.

I considered trying something along those lines but I decided that it would take longer to make than to just put nuts on. Plus it's not like I take the mirror off very often. Good idea though.

I took another approach. Locating the original bracket was somewhat difficult, and the original location is visually hindered by the wing window bracket. As such, I decided to change the location slightly. I moved the mirror back a couple of inches to clear the wing window bracket, then used nut-serts for mounting.

Brothers truck thay fit good. I am getting my driver fender today from the truck shop. I will install it this weekend and i will let you know how the fender and door fit together.
