Newbie... Blazer Spare Tire??

I am new to Blazers (and know basically nothing about them) and have a few questions; hopefully I can get some help. Originally did the 1972 Blazer ever have a spare tire holder that was located on the back of the truck attached with a bar, or was the spare tire located behind the rear seat...or both?

Any help would be great!

The Blazer spare was located behind the seat on a vertical bracket. The outside carrier is aftermarket. I have an old one on my truck that is for one Jerry can and the spare. Some have tire and two cans while some really old ones have just the tire, but all are aftermarket.

Wow Mike I didn't know that all the outside ones are aftermarket! I like the interior ones anyways, just surprised to hear about the exterior ones....was it a dealer installed option, or just real popular.

Me too. I thought the outside one were factory. I finally found one and should be getting it within a couple of weeks. Factory or not I still want to run one. It is nice to know. Thanks for the info.

Here's a factory options sheet- it lists an end of frame tire carrier- Would that be the swing away type??

NuBomb 09-14-2003 11:32 PM

Is that parts list just for blazers or for both blazers and pickups? I'd guess that is for a truck since it lists both side mounted and rear of frame. I think the end of frame is the under the bed type. I'm just guessing though.

Does anyone have a complete factory option sheet for the '72 Blazer that has the codes?? That sheet that was posted by 1970Blazin had great information!!

Thanks!!

Me Too! Me Too!
I want to see a 72' options list.

Man!! I searched the internet forever (at least an hour:) ) For any info. on a 67-72 truck options sheet, otherwise known as RPOs codes. There is almost nothing for our years of trucks! What is the deal with that??? Chevrolet or GM must have this info documented somewhere right?? How else did people type up the Glovebox options sheet??

Does anyone have a picture of a factory spare tire holder installed? I've got the holder, but not sure where it's supposed to mount.

Thanks,

Brian

With the rear seat installed, and the carpet out, it's pretty self evident. There are captive nuts mounted underneath the body where the spare bolts. The carrirer follows the profile of the back seat. Mine has been out of my truck for 20 years. Used the truck without the rear seat a lot, then when it got big tires it wouldn't work any longer.
