3-hole choke delete cluster?

1 Attachment(s)
what's the story with choke delete trucks? from what i understand the choke delete was not listed on spids. was it like heater/radio deletes that were deleted to save money? seems like the 3-hole clusters were primarily on base models (cheaper), but i haven't seen one with 3-hole AND choke delete, which i would think would be a regular occurrence with frugal buyers. so i was wondering if anyone else had info on them. i don't suspect it's valuable, but figure it's uncommon...

67-68 3 hole with or without gauges
69-72 2 hole with or with out gauges

I don't follow what you're saying/asking. Isn't the hole on the top right of it for the choke?

Re: 3-hole choke delete cluster?

My 68 GMC had a big block air, power steering and brakes, buddy buckets and a few other options like speed warning. It also had the 3 gauge cluster. I thought that was a little strange to have all of those options and then the lower level cluster.

Re: 3-hole choke delete cluster?

sorry for the confusion. the raised "CHOKE" letters above the choke hole were absent when there was a choke delete, making the choke delete gauge bezels unique. all the trucks i've seen with choke deletes seemed to be higher optioned trucks with 7-hole bezels. just seems contradictory to me.

a speed warning 3-hole cluster seems unusual to me too...

Re: 3-hole choke delete cluster?

If it was the 327 in 67 or 327-396 in 68 it would probably have the choke delete. There was a metal bracket that could be used to cover the word "choke" if it had the round delete, and I have seen the tab that would read "choke" on a delete bezel before also.
And I have seen a few speedwarning 3 hole clusters.

Re: 3-hole choke delete cluster?

Well my truck was a 396 so I thought that is why it was a choke delete. I thought it highly odd to have a 3 hole speed warning. It now has a tilt added with tac/vac dash. Soon [maybe if I ever get to work on it] it will be a short 1/2 ton 5 lug instead of a 3/4 ton

i had a very original 68 custom cab with factory 327 and choke delete. it had the choke delete plate still installed, and there were NO letters behind it (like the one pictured above). i had a 67 custom cab also factory 327 with choke. hmmm.

my 396 68 has a regular choke cluster, but the truck has had a lot of mods so it might not be factory. i have seen other 396 68's with choke deletes, so it sounds like maybe that was normal. i still have the delete plate from the 327 68, i might have to put it in my 396 truck now!

I think it may have been the 4bbl carb that got the deletes?

Here is a thread on choke deletes posted by Eric (too much stuff) in 2006. Yeah, I know how to dig them up....

The one in my '68 CST/Custom Camper with a 327 is like the round chrome one with the plastic tab behind it The tab is covering up the word "choke" that is molded into the instrument bezel.

I think mine was round or it may have had GM in it I don't remember I haven't even looked at that truck in a year plus some. I am sure it is still out in the pen though awaiting its turn.
