Do you guys run fuel pressure regulators?
 

I have a 79k20 with a 350 and edelbrock carb and edelbrock intake. I heard that edelbrock carbs are very sensitive to fuel pressure and may flood carb. I'm not sure if this is true or not.

whether you are running a mechanical or electrical fuel pump to that carb you are probably sending too much psi.

You should have a regulator and most carbs require only about 7 psi.

From Edelbrock:

Fuel pressure should not exceed 6.5 psi. Float level should be verified to be at 7/16. Refer to supplied carburetor owners manual. Verify needle & seats are free of any debris, and have a smooth range of operation and travel. Verify floats are free of any fluid by shaking the float, or submersing it in a safe, non flammable fluid.

Alright that's what i thought. I'm just not completely sure where to mount all this stuff. Do you have any pictures of how you would do it. I'm trying my best to have it look nice and neat haha

If you have a stock mechanical pump it'll be just fine. They typically run between 6 & 8 PSI. Electric is another story.

Edelbrock might say 6.5 but real world experience says no more than 5psi.

I actually had the carb flood my cylinders right out of box. Fuel filter was installed. So I completely tore apart and cleaned. Reinstalled and installed a pressure regulator quick just to be safe.

The needle and seat were not working properly if 6PSI was too much.
Why mess with Chinese floor sweepings. Get a Rochester Quadrajet rebuilt for your rig. The Edelbrock will end up costing you more than a good quality rebuilt Rochester after you factor in time and frustration.

I never thought regulators would make any difference when using a stock mechanical pump... until I installed one. It made the carb much more consistent and easier to tune. So, if a guy is going to plop a carb on and just run it, then it's not worth it. But the minute you think you need to change a jet or rod... get a regulator first, get a baseline, then start tuning. Otherwise you'll be fighting the small inconsistencies that come from pressure that's just a little bit too high, and changing with RPM. JMO.

I have the same set up got an EDL carb and manifold. Don't mess with the separate maybe regulator and gage and where to mount it. Get an ELD fuel pump to match the carb, 6 psi, done deal. In for a dollar in for a dime.

I'm not running a regulator on my Edelbrock carb. Seems to work fine.
