Firewall pad
I am finishing my 1979 interior and really do not want to use the firewall pad. I am planning to use a hush mat type of material your thoughts. And I am planning to go around my steering column gas peddle and heater box. Do you guys see any issues with this? Will the carpet cover it. At least from a regular point of view. I don't care if someone stick their head up there and sees it
Thanks |
Re: Firewall pad
I looked at a bunch of interior pics on line and it looks like the carpet will go up high enough to cover the hush mat

Re: Firewall pad
The problem I see is Hush Mat is not a thermal barrier. You have no added protection from radiant heat with outhe pad.

Re: Firewall pad
I found some r3 duct insulation at Home Depot. I am going to give this a try. It is just over 1/8" thi k and is both sound and temp deadiner. What do you guys think? I have heard people using this. Plan to put it all the way up the fire wall. The whole floor. The back of the cab and the doors

Re: Firewall pad
Ayr Foil would be a good alternative. Its bubble wrap but withstands heat and would be good for this application.

Re: Firewall pad
What do you think about doubling the mat along the fire wall and single layer under the floor? Just to try to break the heat on the fire wall
Thanks Chris |
Re: Firewall pad
Added a second layer. Pretty happy how it turned out
