My new gauges arrived - Custom New Vintage USA

I've been in the need for a set of modern gauges to go with the LS swap into my '74. In my other project I used the Dakota Digital VHX setup, but the modern font and colors have bothered me. I recently saw a new set of gauges show up in the LMC catalog and found out they are manufactured by New Vintage USA out of Detroit. With the '74 Sierra Grande I'm trying to keep the interior very stock looking so I reached out to these guys to see if they could help me, and they most certainly can. We actually based these on the graphics from the later ('77) clusters as I like the look of the blue inner KM/h markings. A big thanks to Mark and Ben from New Vintage USA, these turned out awesome. For your viewing pleasure...

They fit great inside this woodgrain bezel I managed to snap up recently...

Looks great. Is there any way to clean up the chrome rings to match everything else in it's nice and shiny state

There isn't any easy way to get the plastic "rechromed" that I know of. Apparently Just Dashes in SoCal will re-do it, but I haven't confirmed that yet. I'm planning to get my original dash pad redone by them next month so I'll ask about this while I'm there.

Very nice!!! It appears the shipped them with the tach and speedo in the wrong spot. Was it much of an issue swapping them back?

Can I get some details on what they are doing and how much? I just checked their website and didn't see our pickups on there

Looks good. I noticed them too in LMC. Summit has them as well for a little cheaper. And I agree with the modern looking Dakota gauges. I like the stock looking as well. I`m thinking about doing these gauges in my 85. Did the directions say anything about them just plugging in or is there extra work to be done?

They are more of a universal type of gauge package so they don't have a single connector that will accept the existing cluster plug. Fine for me as I'm really not using much of anything from that plug (just turn signals and high beam).

Saw that you had this color combo custom made. Didn't see anything on their site that looked close to this. How much extra for this color combo? Looks great with the woodgrain.

How will you wire up the speedo? where does it get its signal?

They charge by the hour for their graphic artist to put stuff together, plus a flat fee for printing. Came out to about $400 extra for me.

The speedo is digital so it will pull the signal from the ECM for the LS motor. What I didn't mention above is that I had them add a brake warning light and check engine light to the speedo cluster so I can hook that up to the ECM as well.

Awesome, thanks for getting the ball rolling on this. Hopefully now that they have a saved stock design they won't charge as much extra for it in the future... Wishful thinking.

Thats cool. They make some nice stuff. I like the sweep speedos for car retrofits. I was hoping they'd have some other ones in stock fonts (81-87) but doesn't look like thats an off the shelf thing.

Yeah, my hope is that they put these into regular production. I had mentioned this to the NVU guys on the phone that I thought there would be demand for this stock look. Definitely give them a call and mention my name or point them to this thread if you are interested.

mikentosh...

I was looking into the NVA gauges for my '74. Were you able to retain the stock turn signals? And how about the shift indicator?

As I understand it, from talking to Ben at NVA, the only thing retained is the Bezel. The lens, circuit and housing are replaced with their own housing and it didn't retain the signals or indicator...

Looks to me like the mounting points for the shift indicator are there. Also appears that they have their own turn signals built in the housing.

Yup, they come with LED turn signals ready to go, and there is the mounting location for the shift indicator, though I'm running a stick shift setup so I haven't personally tried the mounting point.
