Fuel system completely dry
 

Hello so i have a carbed 1972 C10, and i recently drained all of the gas from the tank, and there was no gas anywhere in the system. I put some gas in the tank and tried to crank the engine but it didn't fire up, then after a while of cranking i looked at the line from pump to carb, and there was no fuel. is there any tips to get it to crank over? thanks!

you can take the line loose at the carb and blow in the tank. that should push some fuel. put the line back on the carb, then pour a " little" gas in the carb throats and fire it up. put the air cleaner back on before ya try it. sometimes the fuel pump needs a little help getten started. it pumps a lot better at 1000 rpms then 20or 30 or whatever the starter turns it.

Had this problem many times, I like to disconnect the fuel line at the carb, blow back through with an air gun. Sometimes there is debris in the line or at the tank pickup, other times it just needs a prime.

Hello I have a question if you don't mind, is it Ok to blow air past the fuel pump as you are suggesting or am I missing something?

You could but I wouldn't suggest it.
If the pump diaphragm is weak it could ruin it.

I usually disconnect the infeed line at the pump and blow air into it.just be ready gas will/should flow as soon as you stop the air.
Or disconnect the f p in feed and blow into the filler neck.be sure too catch the fuel under the open line
Reconnect
Then pour a lil gas into carb and crank it over that should do it.

LEEVON, if you dont mind me asking I have replave the fuel pump on a 71 also and it acts like I am getting air in the system. The old pump and the new pump will not fill the in-line filter up. When I disconnected the fuel line to blow it out alot of air spewed from the line. Any ideas where the air could be coming from?

Awesome i just tried your suggestions and it worked! the truck started and idled! one step closer to finishing my shortbed conversion!! :D

Which one exactly? I just drained all the fuel out of my 68 when I installed a new hardline from pump to carb. Have not put gas back in yet.

I usually pull the air cleaner and fill the float bowl through the air horn (tube) by the choke plate.Yes put the air cleaner back on if you value you eye brows,just in case
