Inner Door Panel Trim Screws
I thought this would be so easy to figure out, but I have come up empty handed in my research. The upper door trim that the door panel fits into.... What size/type of screws/nuts hold that piece on? Obviously, it doesn't really matter as long as it works, but I'm curious what the factory did. There is just a hole in my doors, with no threaded backing of any sort. There needs to be some sort of nut on the back, but all the places I look, the screws look like short wood screws with a flat head, and dont come with any nuts or clips. Thats NOT going to hold that on there tight enough...
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

The factory screws are a #8 pan head sheet metal screw and they hold the trim & panel great. There is no pressure on it as it only holds the panel steady at the top. LockDoc |

If I am following you there is nothing to screw the screw into on the door.
On my truck I was missing two screws on the lower part of the drivers door panel. When I attempted to screw in new screws there was nothing to thread into. So I took the door panel off and the hole was missing a clip or something over the hole. So I used these license plate clips to thread into. I put them into the holes and put the door panel back on then I was good to go and the screws threaded right in. See the white plastic items in the picture. Ignore the screws look at the white pieces |
Re: Inner Door Panel Trim Screws
The screws go into the door panel sheet metal ,There are no caged nuts or inserts to mount that trim piece ,Just use #8 panhead sheet metal screws http://www.homedepot.com/p/Crown-Bol...4762/100349331

Re: Inner Door Panel Trim Screws
Thanks guys. It seems so odd to me that there is nothing backing the screws up. But if that's the way to do it, then ok. I like the idea of the license plate backing clips.
Thanks again |
Re: Inner Door Panel Trim Screws
You have to remember your dealing with 1970's technology and those plastic plugs can be used to mount head lights also buy then at home depot or loews
