New to the forum

hey everyone I'm Matt. cruised this forum for answers so much I decided to join up. I got myself a coming home from an Iraq deployment present in the form of a 1970 C10 long bed. straight body with fresh grey primer, 350 with edelbrock carb and intake, MSD distributer, long tubes with 2 1/4 inch pipe to flow masters, and some kind of lumpy cam I'm not sure what, but the truck has stock heads unfortunately, would like to figure out what cam its got. also has a h400 with shift kit. any who, its a blast to drive, would like more power though and i have a set of Pro Topline heads but wondering if they are gonna make power, or if i should go with something else. i think they are 64cc chambers and 180's if I'm not mistaken. would love some advice. also wondering if I could go 3 inch on the exhaust, 2 1/4 seems so small for that motor

According to Mr Stacy David your exhaust is plenty big.

Thank you for service and welcome to the board! I'm sure someone with motor knowledge can answer your question. 2.25" exhaust is a good size for a fairly stock 350.

Thank you sir for your service! I've got two brothers In law who have or are getting ready to do tours with the Marine Corps. I've got a lot of respect to anyone who is willing to go face the challenges and evil that you ladies and gentleman face!

Welcome from a fellow Sac area member, actually got my truck from a guy in Loomis, a stone's throw from you. I don't believe I've had a question about my truck that I couldn't find the answer to on this site, really knowledgeable and helpful people. Will be redoing the 350 on mine after the first of the year, so will be interested in what info you find on your build.

Talk to most performance muffler shops and they will tell you that a dual 2.25 system is good for 400HP, beyond that you need to go up to 2.5".

This link has a chart which is based on maximum flow that says 371HP for a 2.25 system, more than just maximum flow tho you need to be thinking velocity as it leaves the engine so a 3" system may be too big, you will need to calculate the estimated HP and then make a decision. Google "exhaust pipe flow rates" and have a good read.
